I moved into this house & there are these strawberry plants running wild in the yard. I love strawberries & was so excited to see them flowering but they don’t grow. Right now, they’re the size of a bean & never seem to grow any larger. Anyone know what I can do? They’re currently going nuts in my garden bed with my raspberries.

I leave them. The wild rabbits and other animals eat it. They don’t get bigger than that

They’re wild strawberries. Used as ground cover sometimes. I think they’re cute.

  3. Eat them? The store varieties are massive but lack flavor. The smaller they are, often the bigger flavor blast. That doesn’t sell well though. It’s just the variety of plant.

They are wild strawberries, which are always small

These other people in the comments are wrong. Indian mock strawberry not “wild strawberry” edible but tasteless invasive species

Mock strawberry. You can tell by the texture of the seeds and the yellow flowers (seen in the background). Wild strawberries have white or pinkish flowers

Yellow flowers indicate they are mock strawberry- potentilla indica. They don’t really have a taste and don’t grow big.

Actual wild strawberries have white flowers and taste sweet and also don’t grow that big but might also have narrower shapes than mock strawberry at times.

    Barren strawberry? Waldsteinia I think.

It’s not a real strawberry, it’s an invasive weed that’s related to strawberry. (notice the yellow flowers) The berries are edible but just barely; IIRC they kinda taste like sawdust. Not something you’d want to eat.

It’s the type that it is. It’s close to the wild native found in the southeast of the US. The larger varieties are developed. They taste like candy too.

This is my childhood’s summer delicacy. Found these in most forests in Europe. In my country, it’s called a poziomka and in my opinion, the best thing to stumble upon.

Ok so I get that these are not real strawberries but my real strawberries still grow tiny like this. Anyone care to provide some insight? I assume it might have to do with not pruning the runners?

Tasteless wild strawberries 🍓 They are not like the ones we eat

Snake berries… Why granny called them that IDK. Don’t eat them.

I actually seeded these things in a margin area of my yard for the rabbits. They love them and leave everything else alone

But what this means is that actual strawberries will do well! I have mock strawberries too and my actual strawberries are going insane

The flowers are really pretty. It’s a decorative plant.

I was so disappointed when I tried one of these, also thinking it was a wild strawberry, and realized it tasted like fleshy water with a subtle hint of grass.
