Help! We noticed our monstera albo was leaning more than usual so we took a closer look & it has root rot!!! How much do we cut off? The larger brown root is brown on the outside but firm.

The last photo shows what it looked like when we first took it out. As you can see on the top it was so soft and mushy. When we cut it there were actually small bugs crawling!!!!! Cut it all the way back to the healthy root and put some cinnamon on it (someone told us it helps protect fresh cuts??)

Background: purchased this plant about 2 months ago. The person had it growing In leca and perlite.

We lightly water it 1x every 9-10 days, and the leaves are happy and healthy. Stem is healthy. We only took it out becauee it was leaning more than usual.

Not root rot. That is the stem that is no longer useful turning black, too much of it was left on the cutting. You can cut that off as long as you leave that fat white root above it alone.

Edit: the fat root at the top.
