Hello yall. I was wondering if this is Indian grass. It appears so to me but I just want confirmation. Trying to replace 2 acres with natives and pollinators so want to encourage and seed collect from the right stuff.
Appears to be Sorghastrum nutans. I’m not sure of any other lookalike species though.

Location?
Just look up __location__ native grasses ans see f anything matches. Species can be hard because tiny features have to be examined.

I have the same in my yard (Great Plains area). I believe it is Johnson grass, though I could be wrong. If it is Johnson, definitely not a native, and super invasive. I like it along my fence, but it does spread like crazy. I personally would not seed for it, trying to control the rhizomes is hard enough.

Agree – Indian Grass was my first thought. If you’re in the Midwest or plains definitely a good one!
