It doesn’t seem reasonable that my property has to accept the drainage of my neighbours house. The property line is the red line, and as far as I know the lots tend to drain towards the line. In my case the neighbours built right up to the property line and now rely on my grading to facilitate drainage.

Am I right to be a bit annoyed about this? Or am I being unfair?

I believe the end goal would be to move the grading towards the property line as much as possible. Thoughts?

Buy a lenght of water barrier and with a piece of steel hammer it into the ground along the property line. But really, what is the damages. He is actually keen that side of your property watered. So, unless affecting your sewer bill, I would let it go. If you really want to bug him off, write him a thank-you-note for watering the side of your lawn.

You should raise your side so that it drains onto his property

You can raise yours a bit so the property line become sthe defined swale as it should be. It looks like youre safe, but be sure to stay 6″ below the siding or any brick
