Like the title says, I’ve had some issues with flooding in the house due to an old driveway that was directing the water right into the house and some poor drainage. Having the driveway redone to correct the issue and they raised the driveway quite a bit. When they relaid the stonework on the sides they added a ton of concrete. I don’t know anything about this stuff so I’m assuming they had to do that, but I don’t have a clue what I’m supposed to do with it now.
They told me they left a couple inches above the concrete for me to put soil and that grass will grow on it, so I guess I do that, but what do I do about the concrete next to this tree surrounded by mulch? Do I have to raise the soil around the base if the tree too? Is that even safe for the tree?
How do I make this not look awful? Am I fucked?

Raise the grade
Your driveway was raised now you’ll need to raise your yard if you want it to match up better. Someone else said raise your grade. Raise the yard. Not the entire thing of course, *grade the soil from the yard to the driveway*. The tree will be fine with dirt around the base. If you’re worried about it and don’t trust internet strangers build some sort of circle around the tree with bricks or something then fill it with a bunch of mulch
This looks like the jankiest concrete job. I’d make them cut it flat with a saw. In fact I’d question the competency of this company and may not allow them to finish if they don’t agree to fix it.
Someone is charging you for this work???
Sorry man! You can cross post this picture on r/therewasanattempt to properly elevate a driveway.
Don’t raise the grade, that would be bad for the bitch tree.
The contractor needs to fix this, they messed up.
Add decorative rocks all down it. Make contractors pay for it… save thousands.
I’m going to tell you, that concrete job looks exactly the way I’d do it
My skill level is below beginner
I would ask, why are they doing it now? This is why you wait until the driveway is in place. Ultimately you need to start where the garage slab is, and grade down away from the house for a considerable distance. Get the water away from the house. Wherever the driveway ends then i guess if you want those ridiculous bullet pavers installed, they will not be in conflict with the driveway, which is much more grade-sensitive
Flooding inside?
You’re supposed to take pictures of it for the lawsuit
This is bad. That weird chuncky concrete should be CMU.
No tree would not survive.dirt on bark and smothering roots are bad. I agree on the bushes and that they are doing the ugliest poor I’ve seen
What a nightmare
