I’ve been experimenting with composting since last Spring. I bought 1000 black soldier fly larvae and put them in my compost. Most compost has been dispersed over my yard and I decided I like the tumbler over the Aerobin. I put a ton of kitchen waste and shredded cardboard in last week and came back to this. There was some left over compost, maybe 5 gallons worth in the tumbler. We’re they all sitting in there dormant?

Keeping the compost mix dry will kill the BSF grub in a day or two…

Decomposted BSF larvae (+ their poop ie. frass) enriches the compost… their frass is good quality manure.

I raise chickens and that my friend is pure gold.

Anytime I get an explosion of BSFL I open up the pile to my girls and they pick it clean.

They get enrichment and excellent nutrition while aerating and mixing up the pile.
