So, in the original thread, I explained that I had hired a guy to trim some branches of this maple away from my grandmother’s house this fall. The tree trimmers boss indicated that it’s age might be some sort of record. So, I did some research and learned how to calculate the approximate age by measuring the circumference.
Circumference: 146″
Diameter: 46.4″
Approximate age: 232 years old
So, if I did this right, it’s not a record breaker unfortunately. I really thought it was a bit older. Still fascinating and really cool though. This was kind of fun and my grandmother kind of got a kick out of it too. Now she’s asked me to try to find the age of a giant oak and a huge copper beech in the backyard. I’m fairly certain they’re not as old as the maple though. Anyway, thanks for reading!

Who cares if it’s a record breaker, that’s a flippin big shug and I’d be floored if I ever saw it in person. What a goddamn gift. Thanks for the update!
