what’s not to work, if its full enclosed little direct sun light

Yes, I follow worcesterterrariums on Instagram, he does these himself
Grace_grows
I think the succulent one looks like a hot mess. The rest, maybe. With enough light.
Keebodz
none with cacti and succulents as those will rot to all heck.

God I love printed catalogues 😍

Terrariums work, but these look a little on the small side. Small ones can be tricky as they you want to ensure you don’t overwater.
Closed terrariums are more suited for plants that prefer filtered light and more humidity – think calathea, not cactus.
Edit I just realised these are open terrariums.

Defs a scam there’s no plants on the moon or mars
BenevolentCheese
They work but they’re tiny, even one plant will quickly outgrow it.
WhereItAllComesToDie
Terrariums are more fun when you make them yourself imo.

I like to fill them with moss, miniature creeping vines (miniature oak leaf fig is one example) or tiny ferns, tiny peperomia, etc. I didn’t have them get too overgrown, maybe because they didn’t have much room to grow extensive roots. I do not use them for succulents. They do need some upkeep- occasional cleaning of the glass, removal and replacement of moss or plants that didn’t make it, etc. If something is getting bigger than you like, you can also trim. You can search terrarium plants on Etsy and see a lot of good examples. I think there’s a subreddit dedicated to terrariums you could check out. I use big jars and etc as containers and make them myself instead of buying premade.

Just get any old container or glass with a lid and give it a go. It should work with a lot of plants, it creates its own little ecosystem
PlaneAnalysis7778
Yes, sort of. Don’t ever put cactus under glass…
Aronnax_k
Carnivorous plants don’t survive in a terrarium. They are always shown in them, but they don’t get food. I tried, and even raised fruit flies, didn’t work.
leg_day
They aren’t scams. But they are a unique challenge. Things you get away with normally will kill terrariums in a flash.
I’d practice in a big mason or pickle jar first.

what website is this? i feel like i need this catalog right now lol
Fantastic_Alarm_1816
they will look bad after some time
APairOfRaggedQuarks
Even if they do you can DIY one in a couple hours for a fraction of the price. $30-50 for something this small is kinda crazy imo
japuvian
Carnivorous plants HATE terrariums and some of the ones they are showing are best grown outdoors in appropriate temps.
Zanderson59
Honestly they are very simple to make just YouTube terrarium and you can find a ton of videos describing what you need and what plants thrive for like atleast half the cost of what those magazine ones are selling for
EWSflash
Some folks can do them spectacularly, but i’m not one of them.
eva_wing
I will not trust any vendor of succulents that puts sempervivums inside a glass dome =(
Nefarious-Botany
Big no.
hakulus
Pretty sure you can pick up those dome shaped ones at Hobby Lobby for pretty cheap…

I would just make your own with air plants! They’re easy to care for
hungarianhobbit
My plant crack shack had a terrarium class during the winter season. My terrarium lasted for over two yrs before I got too lazy.
yukidoki
with that price I’d build my own
badbaddthing
Ughhhhhhhhhhhhh realistically you can make anything work. The biggest thing is educating yourself on the plants you want to use. People throw their bullshit in a jar and come to r/terrariums with a lack of information and get shocked it looks like dookie a few months later. Incompetence is the biggest fault for failure.
