In this video I take you on a tour of my August vegetable garden in my humble Melbourne backyard and explain when to plant Tomatoes (and all other summer vegetables) in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia!
The best thing about August in the vegetable garden is that you can enjoy eating and harvesting your winter vegetables while also starting to plant your Autumn and Summer seeds – that means tomatoes!

Looks great Christie!
Thanks Christie, I was wondering about cucumbers and tomatoes so now the plans are set!! 🙂
Thanks Christie. It is hard to believe that it is time to start thinking about tomatoes already. Your garden always looks so lush and bountiful. It is wonderful that your children are getting to experience the whole process of growing from seed to eating the end result. I am sure that there will be even greater things to come, when you get your new garden boxes.
Hi Christie you plants looks great. Just want to give a suggestion when you plant peas they look good if you plant few in rows and there some purple and yellow do they look beautiful together and the kids love colours and the flowers not white they pink and. broad beans w/ pink flowers also maybe next year.
Everything looks fabulous x
🙂🙂🙂 Thanks for your time. Alf
Hi Christie, novice gardener here. How many seeds to do you put in each pot?
Also my cabbages/brocolli/cauliflower have grown great leaves but no heads yet… is it too late for them or should I just leave them?
Awesome video thanks!
Good to find another gardener growing in Melbourne, I’ve already got my tomatoes sprouted..
I left my peppers alone this year out in the open and believe it or not they’re still alive they didn’t grow but they’re alive, and yeah Cup weekend is when I transplant my tomatoes, capsicums and eggplants.
