Has grown almost 3 ft since I got him 3 years ago! 6-8 months ago I moved him from bright indirect light to this south facing window with lots of afternoon sun and he’s put out 6+ new leaves since so I think more light has made him much happier. I have never pruned so wondering if I should prune now to encourage more branching? Would the red lines be where to do it?

Note: my friend came over to water while I was gone for 5 weeks. I came home early August to 5 or 6 yellowed leaves at the bottom, but also many new leaves at the top. The yellowish leaves still haven’t dropped. This fig hasn’t dropped a single leaf in years so I’m wondering if it was a combo of not enough water while I was gone plus maybe expected leaf drop with so many new leaves? Any brown spots you see were there when I got him years ago, old damaged spots.

I also probably need to repot, it’s been a while and the roots are now coming out of the pot. Thanks for your advice!

I prune in the spring before new growth starts when the plant will get the most sun but if you get good light you should be good. To me it doesn’t NEED to be cut back but if you want it to branch then have at it. I wouldn’t repot and prune at the same time though.

Yellow can be underwatering for sure but also just age.

Have you fertilized? If you haven’t repotted in a while the nutrients from the original soil are gone, it could be a good idea especially if you are going to cut it back.
