I found this in Seattle’s Lake Union while paddle boarding. It was floating on the water. I pressed lightly and it was broken just like an egg. That’s when I realized it was hollow inside, empty with white dots on the shell (like a bacteria block/mildew). Also on the surface, there’s a small area different from the rest (like the chestnut).

I agree with hollowed out buckeye. You’ll find them on land like that as well; the inside decomposes quicker than the outside shell.
