  1. Our family grew ground cherries for the 1st time this year. Easy to grow and produced a ton, but i don't think I will grow it again. The taste is interestingly werid and we did not enjoy them. Always enjoy growing new plants even if they don't work out. Love the channel.

  2. There is no such thing as waste of time if you enjoy doing it. Some people enjoying growing ornamental plants even though they are not edible but it give them joy and that's important for health too.

  3. I grow goji berries in large pots. I also found them to be finicky when in the ground. I had them in the ground for several years and they did nothing. In pots they produce like crazy for me. The fresh berries kind of suck but they are very medicinial. I dry the berries and use them in soup stock and infuse them in honey as well as using them in herbal tea.

  4. Grow Chinese Lanterns. They are ground cherries but turn vibrant orange for late summer and fall decorations.

  5. I love ground cherries! I have the Aunt Molly's too and they self-seed so they pop up every year so I dont have to worry about seeding them. AND… I love the taste

  6. Love your videos, they have great information. I'm always watching for Tuck, I have bought items you have for sell. I especially love the Tuck cup I bought, "Guardian of the Garden", I have my coffee every day in it. Keep the videos and Tuck coming.

  7. Sad to see autumn olive and goji on this list because of bad taste… everyone was talking about them as wonder plants…

  8. ❤ nice to see Tucky back in action eating those carrots. Bro probably has hella good eye sight. Keep getting that beta carotene little buddy

  9. Hmm, I have a particular variety of goji that puts out HUGE berries that are sweet, and keeps doing so all summer, we absolutely love it, so can't really relate to that.
It is in its own corner in the garden and gets trimmed down every year so it's been doing fine. It's really easy to trim the thorns as well with a dog nail clipper and it doesn't really take much time..
This summer was particularly hot and I noticed that our local wasps would hide in the goji berry bush and just suckle on the berries to keep them hydrated during the day. Did not know wasps like it so much !

  10. I live in N. MS on 20 acres and we have some wild "lemon" trees growing. I think they are similar to the hardy orange. They have some wicked looking thorns, even longer than the ones on your hardy orange. I know the fruit is not good for eating but maybe good for essential oil. Have you ever heard of this type of lemon tree? Anyone know anything further about them?

  11. I love your channel but ngl I pretty much disagree with this entire video. With the exception of the Kiwano these are all plants I absolutely love. I know I'm an outlier but I love eating Aronia and Gojis raw and they are so low upkeep and permanent perennials. I've never tried an Autumn Olive before but they sound yummy and they look really productive and easy to grow. I've been wanting to grow Trifoliate Orange (Flying Dragon) here in Zone 5 because I hear it can survive here with a little work and it looks so awesome and I'm not concerned with the fruits not being sugar bombs. The seediness of the oranges doesn't bother me either, that just means i can grow more plants! Maybe I'm just a weirdo, after all i was always the kid that loved black licorice and black jellybeans. If you don't want any if those plants maybe you could send them to me, I'd love them LOL.

  12. My husband uses dried goji berries for seasoning certain soups and Chinese dishes, and I really like them used that way (he only uses a handful per dish). Eaten straight though they are not tasty

  13. I am so glad you said that about Goji Berries!!!! I had that plant when I lived in a desert climate and I just thought I couldn't grow it there. It was so touchy and I watered it well and tried very hard to grow it and it just never would produce or do anything. I don't live there anymore so I'm glad you said that because I thought oh maybe it will grow now that I have moved to a moderate climate. You are right,,,,for all the trouble,,They don't taste THAT good 😂

  14. Your horned melon needed to ripen a bit more… get a yellow orange colour on the skin then its sweet like jelly

  15. Goji berries are better to grow, if you're in a hot and dry region, they can take that climate. Better for your zone 8 and up gardener's for sure.

  16. Cucamelon, will easily volunteer next year. they area pretty prolific and will take over neighboring areas but they are tasty. just know that they will pop up next year and take over what you have there.

  17. Jamie when fall/autumn comes show us please how you put your beds to sleep – it’s fascinating to see , how everything is going to sleep and next year it pops back again cheers

  18. Those Mexican sour gherkins can easily be turned into quick refrigerator pickles. The vine produces so many you could have your pickles and eat fresh too. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ for Tuck. Sweet boy!

  19. I eat aronia berry raw when its fully ripe, otherwise its astringent. In Russia there is an old recipe of aronia berry and Antonovka apple jam. Specifically Antonovka, its renowned to be best for pies and jams. It turns out marvelous. Berries lose their astringency and give the jam a lovely pop to balance out the apple. Highly recommend this OG classic

  20. Thank you for yet another informative video.
I was a little disappointed that Aronia made the list😂. I have had my first set of fruits from them this year. Definitely not something I will pick and eat a lot of but something I don’t mind using for its nutritional benefits. Also happy to share with birds as they still leave some for me😅.
Fully agree with Goji n I am hanging on to my last one in a pot not sure why but is going.
Pleased to see cucamelon n ground cherry. Former is my absolute favourite to grow n eat . But I like eating and harvesting them a little bit earlier when they taste like baby cucumbers.
This is a controversial one and one I am not proud of,even for letting the thought cross my mind! I am attempting to create an edible garden for humans and wildlife I have a nut sorry bone to pick with birds re: Cherries. Love blossoms I guess that should be worth it but have about 5 different varieties all dwarf and some in pots and they don’t leave even a single one unless netted quiet early on. Looking after fruit trees in pots is such hard work unless copious rains and also I planted them in pots with great difficulty due health issues filling them scoop by scoop ,took me all day as didn’t have any borders. Tried netting one and got a handful of fruits but since removing netting it is looking like it’s gonna die with droopy leaves. Is it worth the effort 😮 when I have other things birds can eat! Sorry for evening mentioning this but ,you asked and got to be honest 😀🙏

  21. We use that Flying Dragon Orange tree as graft stock here in New Zealand. Give it a try with other citrus grafting.
