It missed 3 out of the first 5 and then ran like a well greased machine! I am getting pretty good with adjusting knotters.

Which is better? My neighbour says new Holland are difficult to time by oneself if needs be and pro help must be sought. We use welgers over here. Belt driven so an easy fix in the field. What’s the best square baler do you think? Nice pic BTW:)

The right knotter on my 273 will drop the knot on every 30th bale or so. I’ve adjusted that thing 38,922 different ways in the last 20 years and I still can’t get it perfect.

I don’t have a manual for the New Holland and I figured it out. I had to add a shim between the knotters because the right knotters had too much slop and the billhook was slightly behind the left one in timing. In my test run the right tied 0 bales. I also replaced the twine knives. They are riveted on the NH and screwed on the MF. They are both old and work, the New Holland is just less worn out.

If I was going to buy a new one, I like the Massey Hesston with the center pickup but that’s never going to happen.

All the best small square balers that use baling twine are basically new holland knoters.
If you had both as new units you would see that the new holland is a better option but of course the new ones are very expensive these days.
