My indoor monsteras sit at a window that only get a few hrs of light in the afternoon.

If I place them outside in direct light for a few hrs, will the leaves get damaged / burned ?

Thx !

A few hours of direct sunlight is enough to damage the leaves if they aren’t used to direct light

Monstera plants do not like direct sunlight, they do best with indirect sunlight. It seems like the sun that you have on it indoors is enough.

Don’t put it outside. My hubby left mine out for just a couple of hours without telling me and it got scorched.

I bought this monstera like a year ago, it was an alright size but I have to keep my plants in my spare room bc cats. It wasn’t getting enough light inside even with bright indirect so eventually it was just not having it and I had to cut off quite a bit of the leaves because they were diseased. anyways, this summer I put it outside in my greenhouse without slowly acclimating it to direct light and it did damage a top leaf (it was already sad and not hardening). So I brought it back inside and then decided I was going to try my front porch. Well thank god I did because this thing has taken off!!! It probably had the small leaves and maybe one big leaf. Now… it has put out 4 or five new leaves. If you want it to grow like crazy, I would definitely put it outside (without damaging it). Obviously acclimate it slowly but you will be so happy you did! It gets afternoon direct sunlight and as you can see is leaning towards the light even more!

Well I’m now realizing you can’t attach a picture in a comment, but I sent one in chat!

I just put a bunch of my plants outside for what was meant to be 10 minutes and I forgot them for a few hours. They all got scorched and lots of leaves fell off of all the plants. Not worth the risk!

They are absolutely not full sun plants in their natural habitat, they live under the canopy of trees. A simple google search to all reputable plant sites all say bright indirect sunlight is how they grow in the wild. Direct sunlight can burn them. You’ll start to see yellow spots and crisping. Your plant looks happy because there’s no yellowing and it’s pushing out a bunch of young plant leaves underneath and the adults have beautiful fenestration. I still stand by my answer.

I have SO many plants that travel between seasons. The monsteras are the only ones that stay put all year. Mine do well (I have no south facing windows) in an easterly window getting morning indirect light. I think they prefer to actually climb to the light rather than being out in it.
