Hi all, when I started my Monstera journey I didn’t realize I should have “trained” him to grow upwards. Now I have this lovely growth on my hands and would like to have him more vertical rather than horizontal. How can I go about this? Would re-potting and re-positioning then adding a moss pole work?
Note: I’ve tried to gently push his main stem
Upwards but I’m scared to hurt him! 😂

Def moss pole.
Well if u place it into a moss pole ^correctly
All the leaves will be facing upward , until it decides to adjust straight itself oriented proper
Which it will/should , are known to.. In due time
You have to keep it facing correctly towards sunshine for this to happen Monsteras move their petioles adjust to be fixated toward light
BUT you need to consider pruning also
AND I suggest u follow a step to step to donut correct (which includes a pruning)
for starters I suggest a taller pot taller by quite a bit – fiberstone maybe and maybe you’d have to have drainage holes added
With proper bit and kept wet while drilling hole(s) for drainage
I kinda don’t recommend a mosspole at all
just a pole really one with plastic pole section the part that goes into dirt
Even coir pole tho I never recommend em for pole but for support just pole, they’re perfect like ..
Also your mix kinda looks like shid consistancy wise so if u plan to repot reorient plan for that too
– Orchid bark medium sz 40%
– Perlite #3 coarse 30%
– GOOD soil 30%
(such as vermifire, black gold or six potting soil , coast of maine , fox farms forest, Mother Earth groundswell , bu’s baby Malibu potting mix , organic mechanics , or royal gold mendo – in order from basic standard to best)
And yes the sizes need to be as listed #3 perlite and medium 1/2” bark
If soil alrewdy has perlite in it you can decrease added perlite by 10-20% depending to according to how much is in mix already
If it’s 25% or more u can skip buying some althogether honestly
Problem is it’s usually tiny perlite which isn’t what Monstera or aroids need
So the back of your plant is the part leaning down into the soil and the edge of the pot. Meaning if you were to place it on a pole, the leaves will be backwards for a bit. Just place it with the pole in the back towards the light source and it will correct itself over time.
Forget pole. Get yourself a 6’ cedar board, and have it climb that. I had one that was going sideways, and after letting it grow enough to basically be topped, I cut and secured it against the board and potted it up like a cutting. It’s taken off now, and new growth is starting to get comfortable with it board.
I have a guide for staking these pinned to my profile. Yours should easily stake because it has nice morphology.
