I see a toddler eating tomatoes, I’d call that success and plant one closer to their reach next time ha

They’re interested in the plants so that’s a huge win, from one toddler mom to another toddler parent.

    I think there’s a spray for that.

Go for it !! Eat all you want ! I,m 68 and remember picking warm tomatoes with my dad and eating them right there, juice running down our arms

So cute! My kiddo refuses to eat the tomatoes (will eat all the other garden produce). I grow the sweetest cherry tomatoes that taste like candy and he still refuses. More for me!

    Electric fence..works great on animals.

Once I lost aaalllll of my carrots from some vermin it all happened so fast. One min I’m weeding and then next there’s a tot sized wheel barrow ran over my hand with 2 enthusiastic vermin proudly showing off their squirrel stash of underdeveloped carrots.

I was so proud of them and let them know those carrots should have stayed in the ground longer, but since they were out we munched on a few, made some carrot juice, and then made some carrot muffins.

Yeah, you gotta put out pretty aggressive traps for that kind of infestation. I’m talkin pitfalls, bear traps… little things will take your tomatoes back to their colony and then you’ll be absolutely overrun.

  13. Toddlers…the most destructive force in the universe

OMG!!!! Dorbs!! My mom just passed away, and these guys look just like me back in the 80’s, same haircut, same tank, and my mom always had us out gardening, pulling weeds, planting flowers, watering etc. The night I found out my mom was passing, I had become a community gardener. I got my own plot, 24×12. It’s my first year and I built this huge trellis system, over 70 tomatoes, and probably around 30 varieties of plants. I was busy that night, in the garden till 12:15 am, it was complete, and ready for just maintenance. I was busy taking pictures to show her. I knew she would be soo impressed by what grown up me had accomplished, and I wanted her to know, this wouldn’t be happening had you not been my mom, good work mom.

Unfortunately this pest is heavily protected by the government, even humane traps can land you with heavy fines, or even jail! With the amount of ecological damage they do you would think this wouldn’t be the case.

Thankfully the young are much easier to distract than the adult variety of thieves. placing something more interesting nearby combined with decent fencing can work. I have old folks swear by bourbon soaked candy as a way to pacify them.

I hardly ever get to eat my blueberries. Taught my kids too well

  17. This moment captured is so sweet. 🥹 They grow up so fast. ❤️

Ive found toddlers are similar to moths – try and set sparkly lights in your yard away from the garden and they naturally move toward them.

A more industrial/expensive/potentially harmful method is to leave smart phones unlocked around your yard, it bring the toddlers to a vegitative state, where you can call parent control or scoop them up

They are an invasive species. No legal way to get rid of them. Have to raise them then hope they leave home.

Someone else mentioned yesterday to hose off aphids.

I think a hose may help here too.😅🤣

  21. lilly_kilgore

I hear they don’t like cayenne. You should try sprinkling some around.

  22. doggadavida

Trap them, they eat just about anything

  23. Lylac_Krazy

Pests like those are why I have a garden.

Better to teach them to snack healthy.

Oddly, I am still like this. I pass plenty of people that grow stuff and have no idea its edible. Cactus pears are a biggie. Most people are unaware they are edible and quite delicious. Quite often I will ask to pick them and share how to eat them.

I’ve been considering starting a garden and getting my twins involved. I’m very intimidated so I’m starting off with casual lawn work. Today I was having them help me collect dead leaves and put them in a pile and that QUICKLY turned into them throwing the leaves and singing rain rain go away 😓 it was damn cute but I think gardening together will have to wait

My two year old dislikes tomatoes but loves to pick mine and throw them on the ground …
