When we moved into a rental property last year all of these planters were pretty much empty. This has popped up over the last year and has recently taken off. We are in Melbourne.
(Ignore the pigeon poo on it, we have a huge problem with them in our area)

It’s a *Ficus sp.* I initially would have said *F. elastica,* but if you say it ‘appeared’, then *F. macrophylla* is significantly more likely.
