My 2nd go at Hydroponic Okra. My first go (back in July) had only one plant reach maturity and produce fruit, and it only produced two pods before succumbing to root rot.
This time I see three flowers on three plants, and okra nub that seems to have been successfully pollinated!
This Saturday (26th Aug) will be three weeks since I moved it outside. I changed the water entirely last week, and will change it again next Saturday.
I have six plants in a 5-gallon bucket, which drinks up the water faster. Six full-grown okra roots usually occupy around 66-76% of the bucket depth with space to spare. There is about 2-3 inches of space around the bucket circumference.
Nutrients I am using: General Hydroponics Flora Series (Flora, Micro and Bloom), with CALiMAGic and Armor Si on the Week 4 (Aggressive Growth) feeding schedule, adjusted for 4.5 gallons (17 liters) of dechlorinated tap water. Some Garden Friendly fungicide was also used (just a drop!) to curb root rot, though the outdoor temps have been 80F (26C) or less.
WIth another six plants (not pictured) waiting to mature, I’m hoping to get a good harvest before winter hits. Less than sixty days left…
