I’m new to plants and helping plants not die under my care, and I’m wondering if I have these in the right place or if I should swap them.

The cat palm is on the east side of my porch and gets a lot of sunlight in the morning until noonish and then is in the shade afterwards.

The Monstera is in shade for most of the day, but gets sunlight in the afternoon. Should I swap them? Also, if you have any tips for the Monstera, I’m all ears – I feel like it needs a bigger and permanent pot.

I can’t speak much to the palm, but the monstera is a climber and judging by the looks of it, she’s ready to start climbing. They need some sort of post, pole, or trellis to climb vertically. Otherwise she’s going to begin sprawling on the ground and looking for something to climb up herself.

Not sure where you live but I’m in Tucson and keep my monstera outside all year in a spot that gets either afternoon or evening sun. This time of year, afternoon sun would burn it so gets moved into a spot where the only direct sun is literally the hour before sunset. Seriously, like if the I turn it wrong and part of a leaf gets a ray of light, it’s like a redhead forgetting sunscreen in Hawai’i. So if your afternoon sun is intense, go all shade. The palm looks to be in a spot where it will love the light.

  3. if your climate stays warm all year around you could plant it in the ground next to the tree so it could climb the tree. the lighting looks fine too.
