Im deciding whether I should do a gargoyle or crested gecko, I have a full spectrum led and no uvb I did hear from multiple sources that both don’t need uvb if your supplementing calcium and D3, if this isn’t true I can get a small uvb but I’m stating that because I’m not completely sure if that’s even true so I wanted opinions based on my setup for which one y’all think would be better for my vivarium

I personally want to go with a gargoyle gecko but as is now my plants are a little small (I’m getting vines and stuff) i know that they can be a bit heavier than cresties but I like that they have a more carnivorous diet and all around enjoy there look so that’s why I’ve been leaning back and forth between the two

  1. I’m a crestie owner. UVB is not needed. The Pangea or Repashy, Crested Gecko Diet provides all the nutrients they need. That being said a little UVB isn’t going to hurt them as long as it isn’t strong. Some people on the r/CrestedGecko say their Cresties love it but I’d say most don’t have it.

The one thing I’d recommend for Created Geckos (and maybe Gargoyle) is more horizontal perches. You mentioned vines and they may be perfect for this. Cresties can suffer from something called “floppy tail syndrome” if they are vertical too often. It can cause them to lose their tail due to necrosis.

I’m not sure about Gargoyle care as I don’t have one. I know they’re from the same island as Cresties. This vivarium does look well planted though! Maybe a small fern or something like a Fittonia would be perfect in the bottom right of the picture.
