  1. I’m starting so many herbs right now. In my climate I think I’ll have time to get a harvest of warm weather herbs from seed I hope. Multiple kinds of basil and some other like summer savory, mint, cilantro. And then I’ll continue my herbs inside this winter as an indoor winter project and to keep fresh basil around. Also planting whenever I have time, a few seedling pots from which I can plant out as well as direct sowing areas. I hope the gophers and bugs show some kind of mercy to my late summer early fall garden. But I’m getting ready to finally take your advices and get on a spray regiment for my brassicas. Also if you read this far, any tips for dealing with roly polys eating my young seedlings? They sprout and just can’t grow leaves before they get eaten.

  2. I gave up on strawberries (alpine seeds). I just could not get my seeds to germinate. In my defense, reviews for the seeds I bought 90% of the reviews said theirs did not germinate either. I had one seed germinate and it was not a strawberry but a petunia. I think because of the poor economy for the past 2-3 years, some of these seed companies, in order to meet demand, are selling bogus seeds. I know for certain I will not buy this brand of alpine strawberry seeds again.

  3. Gary you have a magnificent garden. You’ve truly mastered the bumper crop as you seem to consistently have more than you can eat. Also your garden looks amazing. You really have a lot going on there and I can see why you would want to maximize your effort to harvest to enjoyment of the “hobby” ratio. (When referring to planting less of certain plants to avoid the over abundance).

  4. Still in the high 90’s here. I won’t be doing much for the fall garden until
October unless it cools some in September which isn’t normal. My ginger is beautiful and it is in a shaded part of my yard. My Everglade tomatoes are growing but won’t produce until it cools some. They are in the same area as my ginger mostly shaded with morning dappled sun.

  5. 108 to 110 in North Texas amidst drought. Most of us on second try for fall starting seeds.

  7. Impressive growth of many plants. Could you speak to how to prevent rabbits from getting into the garden? There are techniques blocking them from going under the fence such as trenching and burying the fence. However the garden gate is a difficult spot to block them from going under.
