Unclear if overwatered, under-watered,
Or plants having a hard time in this European heat wave this summer. Considering buying some evergreens to provide shade ? Thoughts? Thanks it’s my first balcony garden. Location in western Central Europe.

How often are you watering? Balcony boxes often need to be watered every day during summer. Also, your balcony boxes only seem half full of dirt. Try to fill them almost all the way so the plants have more room to grow and don’t dry out as quickly. What plants have you chosen? Are they suitable for the amount of sun they’re receiving?

Hows your soil quality? Low-nutrient soil without proper fertilizing for each plant’s needs can result in sad and less resilient plants. Tbh I think I also see a lot of weeds in some buckets, you’re going to want to make sure to stay on top of weeding so any resources available go to the plants you’re intentionally growing.

The soil levels also look pretty low. Ideally you want your soil line to be less than an inch below the pot’s rim.

Without knowing what plants are here it’s hard to recommend any shade/light/temp changes.
