Ummm… I think I’m looking at an avocado seed? The point of the toothpicks is so the seed can be suspended at the top of the cup/jar and not fully in the water. It is time for a new seed, a clean jar, some fresh water, and googling of “growing an avocado seed with toothpicks.”
Unless it’s not an avocado seed, in which case I have no idea what I’m even looking at š

Christ. Even if the seed was mounted upside down, it would have figured it out after 14 months. I think itās a dud, if not for whatever errors in technique occurred.

It looks like its upside down, that the sticks were to help it āstandā in the cup. But the other commenter mentioned its to suspend it over the top of the cup. It may still grow, but if you eat avocados often enough, id try again.

>How alive is it?
About as alive as the dinosaurs.

Lol. Tell him to sprout the stone in a ziploc bag with a damp paper towel. That stone is practically composted in that cup.
Edit: not this one, get a new one and do it with a fresh one.

Plant? No.

It looks like a dinosaur egg!

The way the toothpicks are jammed into it, not even suspending it out fo water. Ask your friend what they think the toothpicks are supposed to do. Lol Then google the process and restart this science experiment.

Not a plant. And not alive.
But your friend is very persistent! Gotta give him/her that. šŖš»

Best way to tell if itās alive is to drink some of the water.

Actually, funny enough the seed inside still looks decentā¦at least what we can see. Iād peel off the outer layer, take out the toothpicksā¦lol did someone tell you to stab it like that? And find it a smaller cupā¦like a shot glassā¦fill it up and let the seed rest on topā¦then find it the sunniest spot in your house and wait some more. Donāt forget to replenish the water anytime itās not touching the seed.
