I am a 38M who owns property in Washington state. I’ve been homesteading for going on 6 years. I’ve had two relationships during that time period that ultimately didn’t work out, mainly due to the realities of this lifestyle. I’m thinking I need to find someone already into self sufficiency and stop trying to “convert” normies!
Anyways, on that note- I’m finding it incredibly hard to find a person to date/have a relationship with who is into homesteading. Those ladies that are into it are clearly out growing plants and feeding their chickens, not on the dating apps I guess 😂
Lots of people think it’s interesting or fun, but as we all know, it’s a major time investment and lifestyle choice. Lots of folks seem to be happy to write about it on their Instagram, but living the life is another thing entirely.
So in all earnestness- how do you other single homesteading types meet people? Or even you married homesteaders- how would you find a partner if you weren’t married?

When you find the answer, let me know.
Cute dog will probably help
There are usually social structures where people can meet. Churches, farming or other community organizations, classes for adults.
Don’t discount being making friends with older folks who can fix you up with their daughters, nieces, etc.

I met my partner on tinder. I had no plans to be a ranch wife… but here I am, feeding 500 head of cattle, growing a huge garden, butchering chickens, branding calves, moving cows on horseback, plus my regular day job. The right lady will come along for ya. She might now know she wants it yet though, until she meets the right guy who puts that seed into her mind.
I met my husband on a dating site. We were in different states, but both knew what we wanted and made sure that was stated in our profiles.
I have an online friend who also met her partner on a dating site- her profile photo was her in a beekeeper suit, and it worked.
We’re out there, there’s just not quite enough of us to justify our own dating site, unfortunately. I had looked on Farmers Only and TinyHouseDating previously, with no luck.
Someone start a homesteader dating subreddit?
Unless folks are just starting out on the journey, and doing it together, simply the location of the pre-established homestead(s) can be a deal breaker. Also, I’m not too keen on “converting” someone to the idea of ‘roughing it’…and I’m definitely not interested in someone looking to ride along on my coattails as a means to escape an existential sense of discontent.
I’m moving out to my homestead as a single lady in about 2 years. I’ve already got the land, and I make yearly visits to prep, meanwhile. I’m figuring I’ll either end up one of those weird old spinsters who just talks to my animals, or I’ll end up meeting a nice older gentleman during one of my many trips to the local hardware store. As of now, either way sounds just as good.
What a coincidence in this community!

Connect with her and good luck!
Isn’t the farmers dating app the clientele you are looking for?
If you date someone who already has a homestead how do you decide who moves into whose? I can’t even fathom giving mine up
I usually cougar hunt down at the local watering hole on Friday nights!
I’ve seen some people search on Craigslist. People give CL a bad rap, but it’s been a pretty decent place to see who all is out there.
There are Facebook groups for single homesteaders as well. Everyone seems to be along the coasts, so you might have luck. Plus, most of those groups have decent member counts, and I was often seeing young ladies posting there.
Those are mostly the places I’ve checked out. I’m looking to learn and socialize, and for the most part, everyone has been nice.
That’s a funny looking car door.
Put yourself in a place with people your age and interest. Don’t look, it’ll find you.
The confused look on the heeler is what I came for.
Petition to start a dating app called “homestdr”
I feel the same way! Although I would need to date your father haha. Best of luck to you in find ing a girl …I know they’re out there!
Have you tried goat yoga? Maybe ladies who like doing yoga with baby goats climbing all over them would like some of their own.
You could volunteer at some local food drive? Farmers markets? Find a crafty lady that wants her own sheep for the wool.
Cute dog!!
Plant an acre of lavender
Ahhhh. Let my poodle and I join ya.
I’ve seen [Permies Singles Forum](https://permies.com/f/42/singles) recommended on here before. It would be such a cute, sweet way to meet a partner with a similar lifestyle/interests!
Post an ad on permies
Well start with you have to be all in or all out if you’re goi g to give the dating thing a real shot.
I mean, here in rural Canada you would go to agricultural events or socials (if in Manitoba).
You could also try a dating app and be very specific about what you want in life.
