Here is my sowing list for August, the last chance to get seeds in the ground for this year (in my region). Maximise your garden yield and get as many roots in the ground for winter as possible! And at the end, I share a little experiment I’m doing this year with Purple Sprouting Broccoli.

  1. Everything I'm sowing outside is being destroyed by flea beetle… I've had to resort back to sowing in greenhouse 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

  2. It isn't too late for carrots if you plant a winter carrot, such as the Kyoto Red. They get sweeter after frost and prefer winter's cool weather. I love growing Daikon Radish in the Fall, and any that aren't pulled for eating are left as a winter cover crop to open the soil. Bunching onions can be planted in the fall and left to grow over the winter for very early green onions in the Spring.

  3. Oh you will love purple sprouting broccoli. Mine survived minus 20F under cover for an abundance in spring.

  4. I always make note of 'What to sow now ' then completely forget to sow them…duh! I have time today to sow much of what you've mentioned…just checking my seed box.
    Thanks Huw x

  5. I've got a question, which someone might know the answer to. Last year I grew yellow French beans. I saved the seed and sowed and planted them this year. Only this year they are purple. As far as I know French beans do not cross pollinate, so I was expecting yellow ones again this year. My neighbour on the plot next to me at my allotment did grow purple ones but the plants were a good 20m apart. Not one of the plants is yellow, they are all purple. Any clues?

  6. WELCOME BACK HUW!!!!! We missed you while you were out on break.
Thx for this amazing video. We must consider zones while absorbing your advice. One commenter mentioned that it's not too late to plant carrots however, you are sharing cold frame and polythene visuals so thank you. I get it. You're appreciated!!!!!!❤

  7. Was that Reisetomate? I'm growing those this year.
Translates as Travelling Tomato. It's a "tear and share" type, from what I understand.

  8. How come you never seem to have to take off netting 😂… It's like pests completely avoid your garden 😢
