I know this is a lot but. Why did my lettuce do that the spinach just fucking died and the sage doesn’t smell or taste like sage at all the peppers and parsley look the same as when we took them out of the containers we bought them in. We started this bed in the spring.

The lettuce bolted because it got too much heat and sun. They do better in cool weather. The spinach likely died for the same reason. Parsley also prefers cool weather.

Peppers are probably suffering from shallow soil.

Your planter box also needs mulch to help upper soil stay moist for feeder roots.

Next time fill the box to near the top and then add 4″ of mulch on top of that. Give those roots room and protection.

Look into the sun, water, nutrient, and soil type needs of those different plants. Many of those require very different conditions to thrive. They can do fine in normal potting soil, but they do better when given what they need to really grow.

Could be a lot of things, but if everything is growing poorly look into the fundamentals:

    * Light: looks like these guys are getting good daylight. Assuming they’re always here, they should keep growing.

    * Water: Are you watering daily? Some plants will respond to drought by shifting into a much slower/smaller growth habit.

    * Food: What’s your fertilizer regime look like? Is the soil depleted?

    * Soil: What kind of soil are they planted in? Does it have sufficient nutrients (see: food), is it holding enough moisture? Too much moisture?

Always give a location. Texas and NM etc posts are a whole nother thing from those from Maine.
