Simply take your remaining old compost browns of partially composted materials and layer them with grass clippings or a greens subsite. Water well, tarp, and let sit 90-100 days. This will jumpstart old organic matter and give you compost to put down on your fall and spring garden beds.

I’m trying to build my own compost but at this point I have all the grass and kitchen scraps I can handle but little to no leaves. Will this be worthwhile in the end?
One of the best composting videos hands down.

5 things You Can Do to Beat the Summer Heat in Your Garden: How to Help Tomato Plants Manage High Temperatures
https://therustedgarden.blogspot.com/2023/07/5-things-you-can-do-to-beat-summer-heat.html
Looking forward to your new book! Thank you!
How about the chicken poop, can that be added to the compost pile as well?
I started a compost pile in spring of '22. Added to it all summer and some during the winter. Put it in my rows in March and planted directly in it. Got some nice lettuce, tomatoes, and now have zipper peas in it. Struggled to get enough browns this summer but recently put a bale of hay it the pile and added some goat manure that I got back in the spring and have been letting it sit. Checked the temp today, and it's up to 125°. Going to get some chicken litter at the end of August and will put it in my garden before winter. Should have a nice garden setup by spring. You gave me a ton of ideas over the past year and a half I've been watching your videos, Gary. Thanks for your willingness to share your experience!
So i'm starting my chicken compost is it necessary to turn it I think I like your way, it look much easier great vidio.
As a new gardener with limited space, i started my compost in a 10 gallon grow bag. I a m now moving on up to composting in a large storage container. I appreciate your advice to just get started composting because you can always upgrade from wherever you start 🌸
Isn't it bad to have it just lay there and get anerobic?
I like how you encourage people to just start and not have to be perfect. Thank you for that, I tend to overthink things.
This month I had to use bifenthrin on my lawn, trees and non food garden. The mosquitos won’t let me exist outdoors without it. So I’ve been just bagging and throwing my clippings away. It is sad because I’ve had to do a lot of pruning even to control my neighbors overgrowth. I couldn’t get near it without spraying. At one point I had 19+ active bites. Finally I got some relief but it’s not 100% I’ve been using all my shredded documents and browns from delivery packaging for my compost. I always have plenty of food scraps for greens but I look forward to cooler dryer days so I don’t have to spray and can use my outdoor clippings
I am also a new gardener. Thank you for all of the great information. Question? Do you place all of your spent plants- tomato, peppers, Eggplant in the compost pile??
