Edible flowers are growing increasingly popular. But which ones should you grow and how to use them?   2. My gosh!! What an easy brilliant idea. Flower ice cubes. Ive seen vietnameese spring rolls made with flowers decorating them. Also ive seen them pressed into cookies. Ive seen lists of edible flowers and was surprised at how many garden common flowers were listed. I would google all the flowers in my garden.

  3. Great episode. I use chive and arugula (rocket) flowers in salads and sprinkle them on dishes like frittata. They look so beautiful on food.

  5. Home grown beauty products are very easy to make and work very well. Just be sure to use them up as they dont contain preservatives. Rosemary Gladstar has written some readable easy to use recipe books.

  7. Three things in order of relevancy:

    1. This really brought me back to my childhood. I was, let's say, a taster of things that may or may not have been digestible. Pica, they call it, except most kids grow out of it by age 3 or so. I never did. However, one of the things I ate by the HANDFUL were clover flowers, all clover flowers, because I had been told they were edible and I loved them. I remember the other kids thinking I was "weird." But they were one of the few things I didn't have to hide that I ate because I could just announce that they were edible.

    2. I get disproportionately interested in accents. Tanya's accent sounded like a combination of American (or maybe Canadian) English, and British English, maybe a 65%/35% split with the 65% being American? I know it's really none of my business, so not asking for her personal history. Just remarking.

    3. Although I've seen a gazillion microphones in videos, for the first minute or two, Alexandra, I thought "Oh what a cute pin to hold her scarf closed.".

  8. I love borage, and so do the honey bees. They have beautiful blue star like flowers that resemble a mild cucumber flavor. I have seen professional cooks use them to adorn a meal, but I use them on my salad. The tender young leaves are edible and the larger leaves can be made into tea. I grew them for the first time last year, and this year I'll be growing more.

    Last year I put borders and fencing around my edibles to prevent the dog leg lift. My neighbor's cat was sneaking in and using my new raised beds for a litter box. Fortunately, I discovered it early. Removing any waste and then pouring boiling water over those spots to be sure everything is killed before planting.

  9. The glass bowl of ice-cubed flowers would make a very pretty centerpiece….or you could stack them into a tall glass vase.

  10. My mom used to prepare courgette flowers. Picked early morning (because they close during the day), covered in egg batter and deep fried. Taste somewhat like courgette but far more delicate.

  11. Good video! Thank you. 👍🙂There are lots of flowers that can be used. I grow herbs and flowers for tea and to make Hand and bodycreams. And I like to dye wool or make lavenderbags to hang in the cubberts against moths. To dry them, I pic midday and lay the herbs or flowers on kitchenpaper in a well ventelated place. Turn every day till realy dry!!!! Othetwice they will mold in the Glas. Store in a Marmelade glas to keep dry. A paperteafilter with a bit of rice can help also. It is lovely on a cold day to open the Glas with my damazener Rose " Rose de Resht or with dried sunflowers or calendula and to smell sunshine. By the way, Chis from "cabinboyknits" dyes with lots of flowers and always has great tips for other uses of the plants.

  13. Great info. Especially the point of the drifting of chemicals, etc. as my home is located near quite a lot of agricultural land. So I suppose even if I tried growing organically there still may be good reason for caution i.e. washing veg very thoroughly. Also, in spring my lawn and garden is brimming with violets. Now I'm wondering if they'd be safe to use. Thanks ✌🐝🌺 em in va
