I haven’t attempted a graft yet (in this post I am speaking of cacti), but I see people using different methods such as rubber bands only, grafting tape, slicing into wedge shapes and placing, etc. When I see the grafting tape used, my thoughts go to “greenhouse effect or getting burnt through that extra layer of clear plastic”. Obviously though it’s grafting tape, so where is my thinking error? Also I have heard some people say to have the ring of the scion as perfectly aligned onto the base ring, and others say to have it mildly offset, thoughts? Opinions? References? And lastly, I was curious if this roll of gauze would make for good way to secure scion? Thoughts? THAAANKYOOOU.

I use tender tape from the drug store works well, grabs spines, shades it, breaths, and sticks to itself, and reusable. As long as the vascular rings overlap , you are good, a perfect match is only possible if they are identically sized.
