  1. I tried trimming up my forsythia, but it did not flower much the following year. It seemed to be using its energy to put out more limbs.

  2. Perfect timing for this video!
A bit more than a month ago, I planted a common snowball viburnum I picked up from Lowe's. I was noticing yesterday it must be very happy in my east-facing front yard. It appears to have put on 6" of growth. I hand water it.
I want to limb it up so it grows as a tree and shades my living room.
I wondered if the same rules for pruning hydrangeas apply, to remove branches smaller than a pencil.

I love your sassy retro outfit. Brings me back to the 1960s.

I want to put a shrub on your radar. 'Blue Kazoo' spirea. I was never fond of spirea blooms, but oh my, the foliage is something to see. It's kind of blueish and amber/orange at the same time. I believe it changes in autumn. They stay relatively small sized.

  3. Linda I would love to get an update on the foxglove that grew from seed that had self sown. I grew foxglove from seed under grow lights and planted the seedlings outside in different areas to see where they would do best. I would love to see how yours are doing.

  4. I love your gardens! Thank you all of your helpful suggestions! Can’t wait to see your Southern Living plants!!!!

  5. When I was a teen I was using hedge clippers and cut my finger. It looked like hamburger. So no stitches. They could only tape it down. So those cutters are no joke.

  6. This was FABULOUS!! I am so glad you showed how to prune! I love the look you are going for. I brought my hubby in and had him watch this part too! The battery operated prunners are a MUST!! The window box is just SPECTACULAR! LOVE everything you have done and are planning! Sending you and Stewart much love and blessings!

  7. An answer of the day: I trimmed up a black lace elderberry… only because I messed up by planting it close to my walkway and it grew too well and took over! Those pruners look great!!

  8. Thank you for the lovely tour and info re pruning. So helpful. That your home and garden has evolved so quickly is very inspiring. ❤❤❤

  9. Linda, you are so fun to watch. I want that tool. I am collecting info for handicapped/disabled gardeners.

  10. ??? Could you do this treeforming with an oakleaf hydrangea? An American beautyberry? I'm adding natives to my gardens, for various reasons. 7b, W. TN (many ppl w/fallen trees on houses, no elec. WE have elec, no worries. Love YOU & STEWART. 🌾

  11. I have limbed up my Chinese viburnum because I loved yours so much. Mine has been in the ground about 4 years but was very small going in and doesn't have drip to it. This year it was absolutely beautiful. It's about 5 feet tall now. Thanks for a great idea.

  12. HI LINDA!! Thanks so much for sharing so much of your life with us ~ I'm amazed you always come up with more content, and I'm sure I speak for many: WE LOVE IT!! Your voice is a daily background each morning in our house as I watch whatever new content you've posted or I have to resort to something from the past.
Once I've had my 'Linda-fill' we'll change over to the Tim Janis chanel, with it's amazing photography and tranquil music – check it out. Anyway, thanks for all you, Stewart and your team do – hugs from Nashville!!

  13. I am making over my side yard and have planted Limelight Hydrangeas which I am tree-forming to give some shade to the macrophyllas I also planted there. I also tree formed a chaste (vitex) tree. I allow my garden to be a little wild in late May and into June because everything is blooming and so lush. Now that some of the perennials are finishing up, I am thinning out and cutting back so I can actually get in there and do a little work, and also pulling out the cool weather annuals to replace with cosmos and zinnias. The triple digit heat is here this week, but we have certainly enjoyed extended spring temperatures this year so I got a lot of mileage out of the larkspur, poppies, snapdragons and Bachelor Buttons.

  14. I had to go into my watch settings and turn off "raise to speak" so I don't keep triggering Siri when I use my hands to talk. That's probably what happened to you. LOL

  15. Just watch your fingers Linda .. Have a vineyard use these lots heavy duty ones . Slick but dangerous. 🇨🇦

  16. I have turned a bush into a tree but it is not small it is surprisingly HUGE my silver dollar eucalyptus is now a very large tree and 3 years ago I had it in a smaller pot. Thing grows crazy fast!!

  17. Oh what fun! Despite the wear and tear of many years of gardening and my advancing years I can happily envision many more happy years to come with the purchase of battery operated garden implements. I've found 'a second battery' brings absolute bliss. 😁

  18. I did kind of accidentally prune my large limelight hydrangea into more of a standard look this spring… our snow load in zone 3b was so heavy and when the snow came off the roof it really damaged the hydrangea. So while trying to prune it back, I ended up really doing a number on it! Oops! Not sure how many blooms I’m going to get this year but time will tell!

  19. I’m limbing up a sand cherry bush to create a small tree on the sunny side of my shade garden. I chose this plant because I keep losing my red leaved Japanese maples to verticillium wilt in that area- I desperately want that dark reddish purple leaf, and unfortunately redbuds are affected by that wilt too☹️
🤞hopefully the sand cherry will not be affected- 2 years in and it looks great so far!

  20. Adore you Linda !!! I would love to see a video of you and Stuart visiting about how and when y'all started working together. You and a dear friend of mine have inspired me to be a gardener. I had nothing before. Lol. Love you.🏵🌺🌼

  21. I limbed up some gray dogwoods but it's not going well. We had a day of heavy rain and the top branches completely bent over, it looked like an open umbrella. They did not recover. I'm going to shorten the branches to see if they will straighten
