Plant These 3 Edible Annuals ONCE and You’ll Have Them FOR LIFE!
We have planted so many different fruits and vegetables around our property over the past few years, and most of the time we grow annuals that require a new planting the next season. There are a few edible annuals, however, that never seem to disappear completely even after a zone 5 gardening winter.
In this video, we talk about three edible annuals that are vigorous self-seeding plants that will last for years, if not indefinitely once you have planted them in your garden.
Sometimes, this can be annoying because the plants may not be ideal or may even seem to be invasive. At other times, this can be a pleasant surprise, as the plants that continue to develop provide health benefits or are a delicious garden snack.
Regardless, we think this video will provide you with some good garden planning help when it comes to decision making for which edible annuals you decide to plant.
Thank you for watching!

This video will focus on strawberry spinach, borage, and chamomile.
If you want a strawberry spinach salad with a little borage on top, and a cup of chamomile tea, then this video is just right for you.

Ground cherries….
I tossed it in the fire pit one year and now we get ground cherries around the pit.
🤢 I cant stand the flavor.
Our marigolds come back every year on their own , as well as safflower and sunflower
Arugula! It has actually taken over a patch of my lawn but I don't mind because I enjoy the smell of freshly mowed arugula far more than the smell of fresh cut grass.
Um…. bee balm.
So far my favorite is Lambs Quarters. It is invasive, but it tastes like spinach and around my area it grows uncontrollably. I used to pull it early in the season thinking it was a weed but then I did a lot if research and it actually has more vitamins and minerals than actual spinach. I would love to have some Strawberry Spinach! I've talked with local gardeners and most haven't heard of it, let alone tried to grow it. This is one of my favorite videos thus far! Keep up the great work!😉
Cilantro is mine. Always coming back and I love it!
Mint? Hello! Parsley, chives. My worst is naturism. I planted it once and I will have it FOREVER!
Potatoes are my newest one. Over the last four years every spring I’ve been getting more and more voluntary potato plants. To the point where this year I have between 10 and 20 voluntary potato plants. One which somehow started growing in my brand new raised bed. How that one happened I do not know, but that is OK with me because potatoes are one of my favorite crops to grow.
I also wanted to share a first for me with potatoes. I decided to dig one of my plants early for supper a week ago and discovered that the seed potato was still in good condition. So I put it on my kitchen windowsill to see what would happen and sure enough. It is sprouting new growth again. I am planning to plant it again to see if I can get two crops out of it in one year.
Amaranth for sure!
Thanks for the warning on some of these!😊

In my garden is mint and sunflowers
Morning Glories have been a nightmare for me. So sorry that I ever planted them. Planted them about 20 years ago. Still fighting plants that come back in abundance every year.
We love our Amaranth-the greens are delicious, and very nutritious. Like my sunflowers, I get numerous volunteers. I just leave the ones that pop up in good places. Plants are beautiful..
Do you have any new potato harvest videos? I followed all your tips and I'll harvest in a couple weeks.
