  1. The males have black scent glands on their bottom wings. SO cute! My daughter and I raised them when I Homeschooled her. Please be careful not to turn the chrysalises in a different direction while hanging, as it can make them deformed. Bless you for loving and caring for those babies…

  2. Wonderful! We had 45 in our garden this year, milkweed I didn’t even plant. Unforgettable experience for my young granddaughter and invaluable lessons on nature. You are so blessed!

  3. She saw the laying of eggs, minute caterpillars emerging, the making of the chrysalis and the emerging with the huge body and little by little the wings grew. It was our front row scene every morning, we sat and watched.

  4. Hi Robbie. All I can tell you is the females have thicker lines for veins & are w/o the black dots on the lower wings. The Monarch I had land on my Teddy Bear Sun last season looks to be a male however I've yet to confirm it. Take care, ~ Covah

  5. Love your garden so much, and your life is full of poetry. We are wondering if you'd be interested in trying our smart bird feeder?

  6. Hey Robbie and Evr1. The males have a small black spot on the surface on the top of their hindwing.

  7. Love seeing the butterflies and all the wildlife! I have a butterfly bush and they love that. I'll have to look into getting some milkweed! Your garden is always beautiful 😊

  8. ❤ hello Robbie and Gary. …Robbie, I hope you can help me be at ease with something….one of the hummingbirds that comes to feed, well, I noticed she wasn’t around..until one morning she came up to my kitchen window where I have a dot stationed. Well I noticed she’s has something entangled on her feet, which that’s what has me worried. Can I remove it ? I’m so afraid it’ll get caught onto anything . So far she’s been coming to feed and she’s flying pretty well. At a closer look the piece does move , it’s not rigid..any suggestions would help. 💙🙏

  9. Oh you are so fortunate to have monarchs!! We used to raise them with our kids. Now that I'd love to show my grandkids I never see any. So sad.

  10. Happy 4th to you and Gary. I'm glad to see the butterfly, hummingbird, ladybug, and bees. My town sprays for mosquitoes and chiggers. Mostly mosquitoes, which I seen a down size in these flying bugs and hummingbirds. Seeing someone take the time to help all God creatures make my day. Thanks for helping nature.

  11. Males have a small black spot on the top surface of the hindwing. Females do not. You can see the spot when the wings are open; sometimes it's faintly visible when the wings are closed, too.

  12. On twitter i met an amazing woman who had lots of milk weed n she would collect the eggs n put them in butterfly houses n release the butterflies. She sent me a sandwhich bag full of milkweed seeds, she was in Canada! She's the Monarch whisperer!❤

  13. I did the baby formula thing and it did help most of my plants. Just not the peas for whatever reason. Unfortunately, I had a deer come to my totes and munch on some of my plants! I had to tulle it off. One of my cucumber plants was ripped out of the soil! I don't know if that will survive or not.

Do you grow birdhouse plants anywhere? I managed to get one of the 6 seeds I planted to sprout. Not sure how much it will product or how long it takes but I plan on using the fruit/veg after it has dried out for bird houses. Going to give a few to the neighbor as well.

  14. I'm not sure, but it may be a female. Males have 2 black dots on their lower wings. Easiest to see from the top when wings are all the way open.
If you provide them with a regular source of milkweed, they will come back every year. Maybe plant 2 totes of just milkweed for them. Keep the 3rd as a nursery. I would cut the piece of MW branch that she laid that egg on & put it in your nursery. Monarchs hatch in 2-3 Days.

  15. I'm so happy I found your channel! My milkweed died so no monarchs to lay eggs. But the swallowtails laid some on my parsley and I have one chrysalis! I'm excited to see it emerge soon! I loved this video.
