The Government is reportedly drawing up contingency plans for the emergency nationalisation of Thames Water as concerns grow over its mammoth £14 billion debt pile.

Ministers are said to be in talks about the possibility of temporarily bringing the utility company back into public hands under a so-called special administration regime (SAR).

It comes after Thames Water chief executive Sarah Bentley stepped down with immediate effect on Tuesday amid mounting worries over the financial stability of the firm.

  1. Brexiteers want fewer regulations 'red tape', expect to bail out businesses and the rich regularly in Brexit Britain.

  2. What other assets are the British being scammed out of since the gov wasted billions during lockdowns..

  3. What a shock to learn that Capitalism leads to big bonuses for the bosses, but a fundamentally weakened utility, and taxpayers will have to bear an increased burden as a result!
Nobody could possibly have foreseen this!!!

  4. SAR!! Don't stop there, start Nationalising all the utilities including rail. The sooner the better before we are absolutely ruined. Can things get any worse??? They know they will have to be bailed out or no water. It's just mind boggling what's happening to this country.

  5. So the government is thinking of nationalizing Thames water. They think it a good thing that the rest of the country finances water for London from their taxes? Are they going to finance all the countries' or am I being silly? I probably am and should shut up, pay my own county water charges and pay some of my national taxes to London .
I will bet no-one has had the thought to abolish ALL water rating schemes and ensuring by law that every drop of water used goes first via a WATER METER ??????? More water is used by households that do NOT have meters as there is no limit to the amount they are using. With every outlet being metered water usages would be dramatically reduced……… end of rant.

  6. No the public money must not be used nor prices go up to fund these greedy shear holders. They can pay up or put the water back to the people again and make the public servants do their duties that their paid to do

  7. No the public money must not be used nor prices go up to fund these greedy shear holders. They can pay up or put the water back to the people again and make the public servants do their duties that their paid to do

  8. No the public money must not be used nor prices go up to fund these greedy shear holders. They can pay up or put the water back to the people again and make the public servants do their dutiesi that their paid to do ,to benefit the people of this land England not to benefit the corporations; organisations etc,

  9. Don't forget, people!! The problem with government is that it is not run like the private sector!

Also, socialism is bad. Socialism is taxing wealthy people and businesses and using the money to provide services to everybody.

Taxing the middle classes to deliver billion dollar bailouts to failed private enterprises is not socialism – it's a bailout! Don't forget that.
