Join me as we tour my garden, Dan Yr Onnen, at the height of summer. Flowers are in full bloom and bees are everywhere! We’ve had a small amount of rain this week which is a welcome relief, but today was as hot as ever.
If you enjoy this more informal style of video, then check out the Huw’s Garden Diaries playlist as it captures the changing seasons of my garden on a weekly basis. Hidden amongst the videos are little gems and tips to benefit garden of all shapes and sizes, and gardeners of all shapes and sizes too.
A special thank you to my Patreons.

I'd never heard of Vietnamese coriander! How exciting, thank you for sharing it. It's lovely to see you talking about how unexpectedly huge the task is for converting a large open field space into food production. Keep on adding perennials! We love watching what you find and how they thrive. ❤
6:30 There are many "curry" plants, each with their own unique flavour. Drop 6-8 leaves in any dish to add to the masala (mixture) of flavours in any Indian dish.
Enjoy your visit to North Wales. Good forecast for next week. Greetings from Conwy.
What a wonderful channel.
Hi Hume, I’m very new to the gardening I have raised beds two of them just now and put all my potatoes in pots three pots. I think I might’ve overwatered my potatoes up as the leaves are withering before any flowers, but all the leaves looked really green and healthy, but after a a couple of days of rain, this is what’s happened to the leaves please could you help advice. Also I wondered how many times to water my carrots, leaks and onions? Like I say new to gardening really enjoying your videos hope to have a reply from you.😃
I also did eight cucumber plants already. I have had 10 little cucumbers from the plants and more flowers appearing.😁
Leek blooms are so beautiful. I saved two leek plants last fall, and let them bloom for seeds that I can collect for next year's planting.
Who's Sam?
You need to trim off the Vietnamese coriander and they will regrow even if you are not using them cause they will eventually die off if not. Share with friends and neighbours. Trim them in stages if it is something you use frequently in the kitchen. If you are planting them on the ground they need to be continuously propagated and replanted. If you are planting them on a watery area you just need to trim them and they will bounce back even without doing much.
All my French Lavender died lol. I was just experiment if it will live in 113 degrees heat wave lol. I guess not. I'm planning to grow only French ones in Spring of 2024 and see how they goes. Will be my frist time, I'm excite! Can't wait!!!!
Love your videos, and not sure what curry plant is? Turmeric? Dill? Is it used for pickling? Flavoring vinegars? Drying? It's awesome-looking! My native Yarrow is going crazy here in Baltimore, Maryland, USA We've had stray showers and I've been using water from my cellar humidifier for watering plants…they love it!
Curry plant- throw it in any soup or curry when youre sweating off your mirepoix. It dries quite well so you can use it all year around and once dry might as well blend it into a powder for maximum versatility.
Giving a shout out from near Conwy Castle, have a great time and bring some gorgeous weather with you 😉
I just can't bring myself to eat flowers. 😅
Curry would be great in any stir-fry, and for flavoring chicken. Maybe fish too if you like fish. Just make sure you're in the mood to have the whole flavor of the meal dominated by it.
Your voice brings me calm and peaceful. Thanks from Sri Lanka 🇱🇰
Have you planted any other fruit trees?
Can you tell me more about Sam? Does he have a culinary blog or show? Where in North Wales are you heading. I'm originally from there but have lived in US for many years. I am so happy to have discovered you and your passion for gardening. A little bit of home every time I watch😊
Hello Huw, your curryplant looks like Helichrysum arenarium which is used in herbalogy to promote digestion esp. the gall bladder. It contains bitters and tanning agents and essential oils as well. Esp. the flowers. You can use them as an "amara aromaticum, maybe whith something which needs a lot of oil when cooked… but it's not thermally stable so add it after the cooking process!
Thanks for all your information and humor. It would be lovely when you would mention the name of the varieties you grow more often. (Potatoes excluded😉)
Greetings from Bavaria/Germany, the pea plants here are also very small this year…same cause as yours…
Sabine
Thumbs up for intermittent fasting ❤
I'm also trying Vietnamese coriander this year, and although it's an interesting plant, it doesn't really taste like coriander at all..🤔 From what I've understood, it's quite tender, so I'll try and overwinter a cutting.
Not checked in with you for a while, but I love this more informal chatty style of video.
I nearly lost my Vietnamese coriander to the heat earlier this year, but I'm happy to say that a good watering, a prune and a better location and it's bounced back beautifully. The great thing about this coriander is that it's not supposed to have that 'soap' flavour that people who can't eat coriander get. They can actually eat this one, apparently. I'm loving it too. Thanks for the chat, Huw. Ps, I've heard curry plant gives nice flavour to rice. I've not tried it though. Let us know if you find some good uses for it! Xx
Is the name Vietnamese coriander a UK thing? I've only ever heard it referred to as Vietnamese mint, because it grows in a similar fashion.
Great to see you have a Denbigh Plum as I'm from the town, live just outside and graft Denbigh Plum trees for sale locally. Hope you have a great time up here. Steve
Hello Huw, I love your videos. Can you please tell me the name of that stunning Lavender 🪻 The one with the Hover Fly. ❤️🇿🇦💚
I love random. My garden is very very random.
Thanks Huw! Always a pleasure watching you in the garden.
In response to your curry plant, you should collab with Gaz Oakley, I know he has mentioned you in his videos before. How to cook with x that you are growing in your garden! Loooove your videos, first year of veg gardening this year and our garden is overflowing with veggies right now, loving all of your advice. xx
Great to see things evolving. Thanks for sharing your plans and experiments… inspirational!
💚💚💚
Hey, I've been on that diet for about 20 years before Huw was born. It doesn’t matter how many peas I grow they rarely make it home.
"Literally string string"… 😅 that's exactly the kind of little "funny" I like. Random is a very pleasing effect in your garden, and partly because of you and your "commenters" my garden is now quite random and fun as well. Another good video, Huw! Thanks! Safe travels!
OMG i love Vietnamese coriander… i never see anyone talk about it! it is unrelated to coriander, propagates in water more easily than mint…and it's incredible with garlic shrimp😊😊😊
Curry plant (helichrysum) is named for its fragrance not flavour or use. Ive not seen it have a culinary use
We call it Vietnamese mint and use it in place of coriander over summer. It's tuff as nails, can handle being ignored. Best grown in a big pot with a water reservoir, loves a feed of manure/fish solution. Keep undercover during winter.
The Wi-fi garden?
Curry plant u add few leaves to curry also I used to make a cabbage curry.
