Okay . . . the challis fabrics: How about an Itch to Stitch Kosice Top in the Watermelon and a Paper Theory Zadie Jumpsuit in the Poppy or Sunflower prints. Those are what sprung to mind when I saw the fabrics. So far I don't have a dress suggestion yet. If I see something fun and fresh I'll let you know. 🌼
Loving all the bright colours, can't wait to see them all made up! Looking forward to the Italy video. I recently purchased McCalls 8214 for a breezy summer dress.
True Biais Shelby dress
I think the watermelon fabric would make a good Itch to Stitch Fistera dress you referred to. I think the Inspiration dress would look amazing as a New Look 6692 (although I might add even MORE fullness to the skirt because besides that amazingly gorgeous fabric, I think it is the contrast of fullness and fitted bodice that makes it so special.) Another one might be the Seamwork Leighanne. It's beautiful.
There was also some Seamwork ones that I thought would look great with your Poppy Fabric.
The Love Notions Sonata for the Sunflower Fabric?
Was it the Cashmerette, Franconia that you're planning to make OR did they change the released July pattern?
Do you like the Cashmerette Webster Top & Dress? I think your silk charmeuse would look great with that…? And some Seamwork ones, too. Well, Style Arc, as well, lol. (YES, the Corda). Too many choices… Good Luck! Thats why I watch YOUR channel because YOU help ME pair things up. lol
Soooo much fun you're about the have!
The Fistera would be beautiful in the watermelon fabric, Pattern Emporium Sewing Breeze dress, French Poetry Pleiades Dress, any of which would be lovely in your woven fabrics. A fabric with a great pattern looks best in a garment that lets the print take center stage. Layered ruffles look best in a simpler, more plain fabric, but that's just my opinion.
Lovely fabrics. Love the artesane top and dress from Atelier Scammit. Also the atelier Jupe Lea dress or Olivia dresses are dreamy
If you decide to make the StyleArc Byron Top (cropped square-neck shell) I would suggest definitely toiling it first. Comes up very big…well, it did for me. Love the plans, and looking forward to seeing how much you actually get done!! Enjoy!!!
Good luck with all your plans.
Happy Independence Day to you two, Whitney. I am out watching my son run a race.😅
Pattern Scout just released her Flora sundress and it looks exactly the same as your Italian inspired dress (to be made out of your Italian fabric with lemons).
Hi Whitney, that Italy looking fabric will look great as the sundress.😊
Lovely fabrics and plans. The silk could be a harmony or cadence shell. The poppy would be great as a fisterra. Why not use the embroidery machine and have fun with florals on the jumpsuit pockets, yoke and collar to tone down the prison vibe? xxx
Happy Independence Day to you, Whitney, and your family! 🇺🇸 🎆 I am a Challis girl. If an online site even mentions the term ‘challis’ I’m in! I love sewing with it and I love love love wearing it! My first ‘go to’ thought with challis is a simple shirt dress, especially if my fabric offers a gorgeous pattern like the ones you’ve featured here and, because I’ve made both of these up, I can attest to their worthiness: Style Arc Armidale dress (did I mention my affinity for a nice ‘Johnny Collar’ as well.) I wear mine with sneakers to go super summer casual and with a dressier sandal and more accessories for a speaking engagement or date night. You’ll be amazed how quickly this one goes together. My second choice (and again, one that I’ve made up and that I love and am wearing to death) is The Blue Dot Patterns Andrea Wrap Dress. This one is a winner on so many levels: I don’t like breaking up a gorgeous fabric pattern with a separate bodice and attached skirt piece and this one doesn’t; I love princess seams and this one has them; I love variations in a pattern- they’re all here in this simple pattern! I like to extend the wrap ties so that I can tie it in front instead of the back (I’m sitting in a wheelchair a good percentage of the time and I don’t need a back tie dress or top!) I’ve made this one up this summer in both a viscose challis and a nice drapey linen and wear them both casually and casual dress. Why all the dresses in my summer 2023. wardrobe, you ask? I was inspired by you, Whitney, of course! P.S. Take a look at Tilly and the Buttons’ Alexa Jumpsuit/Playsuit. I’ve purchased the pattern, but have yet to make it up, sans breast pockets, with one of my challis pieces. I’ll keep you posted!
So, about 5 minutes in and you are discussing “blabbering”. I suspect most of us watch for the sewing ideas, but also to listen to you chat. I love it. Blabber all you want.
Happy 4th to you, hope you have a great visit with your family.
You have mentioned doing a video with Jenny, where you both wear dresses made of block print? Am I crazy, or is that still something I have to look forward to. Love the channel. 🙏🏻🤞 for everyone’s health, but mostly for your mum❤️❤️
I love my Charlie Caftans. For the hottest days, they are perfect in rayon challis. I'm excited for you that you are giving yourself some space to be creative and change your mind as necessary. It's really important to pay attention to that. Have fun!
Just discovered VikiSews patterns, and love This is Kachi patterns. Contemporary, fun designs.
Disregard my question about you and Jenny. Watched the rest of the video🤪
Atelier Scammit axis dresss😊
Would an Elodie dress be good for the rayon challis? I'm dying to buy and make that one.
Speaking of fabric and linen in particular… have you tried Pure Linen Envy linens? I just love their linens. And the price is right.
I think the Trinnie Woven dress and the Armidale Dress by Style Arc would both be lovely and comfortable made up in your rayons. I’ve made the Armidale and find it to be the perfect casual summer dress.
Ooh, i just cut the Style Arc Cora out yesterday, would love to see it in that fabulous charmeuse.
EasyJet crew?😄
For the print linen: make the scrappy tiered dress, then make a long sleeve bolo to add when the weather is cooler or in the evening. If your sister wanted a skirt, she should have bought the entire piece of fabric for you in return for you sewing the skirt for her.
Comments about me… More like me musing….oooh, I hope she does that square neck "cropped" came because I just ran across that unused Butterick pattern from the 90s /00s that is a dead ringer that I've worried will pop out too much because of my bust….gee, Whitney loves the Kersoe. I should try it again…after all 3 other patterns from that book are becoming TNTs. ….I would go with the orange as a blazer but definitely if I were making the CC boiler suit. In a solid so the details show and definitely an unexpected color….
Maybe you could add some white or colorful Mexican-style embroidery or trim to the orange jumpsuit so it doesn't look like a prison outfit.
Have you checked out the Chalk and notch Marcel pattern? Great summer dress!
Whitney – May I suggest McCall's 8243 Jumpsuit as an option for your orange boiler suit? It can be sewn as a romper with short or cap sleeves. I hope to make one for myself this summer. Looking forward to seeing all your projects!
I just made the Closet Core Charlie Caftan in a rayon batik, and I love it for summer. I only had 3 yards at 45" wide, so I just made it as long as I could with the fabric I had, just below the knee. It's fabulous and so easy to wear. You'd probably need a FBA so the tie would sit below your bust.
On dress pattern ideas: Have you already sewn a Charlie caftan in either version? I like what I see about Style Arc's Trinnie but haven't sewn it myself yet. I'm also intrigued by Sewing And The City. Her free pattern has intriguing sleeves as a jumping off point.
Oh. A shirt dress with long, short or no sleeves is always a good idea. It creates a hint of polish and a nice vertical line.
I was just going to say prison jumpsuit 😂. That aside, so excited to hear all your plans and Italy inspirations.
Love these plans! I just made a tiered strappy dress for a July fourth bbq and used the Cadence tank, cut it off at the waist and added two gathered rectangles for the skirt.
I think the watermelon print would make a lovely Love Notions Rhapsody dress. I made a Rhapsody in a super light challis a couple of years ago and it is wonderful in the heat of summer.
Your thoughts on sewing at our own speeds (right before Cashmerette release) would be a great short.😊
Gorgeous fabrics, the only one that I think you should do something different is the orange linen. The paper bag shorts and a boxy top would look good and you could pair them with other things in your wardrobe.
Closet Core Elodie wrap dress or the Named Clothing Reeta Shirt Dress or the Cashmerette Franconia dress. All of the fabric is beautiful! Thanks for sharing.
That was a huge firecracker for his mother
Happy 4th. Minerva fabrics has just gotten some beautiful viscose fabric…WOW…to be rich now. In some of the fashions shows I have been viewing has been interesting in that they seem to be going into the 80's . Also, a lot of long dresses & even new styled trench coats; Also a lot of tartan plaids in different styles of clothing….real nice. That Italian inspirational dress is lovely and would look good on you. Those 3 challis would look great as maxi's ; maybe some ruffles; perhaps straps and maybe some bare back and topped with sandals. Beautifully colored. Also, some culottes with a solid color…😊top. That charmeuse would make a beautiful blouse. That orange linen is great on you……get out of your box…gorgeous color. That orange color would look great as a blazer with some navy blue linen pants and a floral top inside…Real stunning. Some of my thoughts…I love color and try many and do not stick to any regimine…it is fun that way.
Can’t wait to see what comes out of the sewing room. But I vote NO to the orange jump suit😂
I think you should be sewing fall less pressure to hurry❤
There are some really cute Seamwork patterns that would be great rayon dresses! I remember a video of yours awhile ago where you made a Seamwork pattern you liked and wondered why you didn't make patterns from them more often. A few in my queue include the Meg, Killian and Bertie.
Those big prints are nice but if u are a little fat u'll look fatter … …ooh I love sewing
I love the Tessuti Lois Dress pattern. All your fabrics are so beautiful, now I want to go fabric shopping 🙂 I am in learning mode for July, challenging myself to try things I haven't done before. First up, a shirt, which is now finished, and now a denim skirt with a fly front, jeans zip, and four pockets, I started it today.
I am making the Emma sundress from Seamwork Patterns. So far, so good!
A suggestion for your poppy fabric is the Daphne Dress by Sewing patterns by Masin would be lovely. 🌺
Stof imeans fabric in danish(I have inside knowledge😉) I am so looking forward to see your italy linen dress
