It’s not too late! Here are the crops I’m sowing in July for self-sufficiency.

  1. Great video. Here in Missouri I like to start growing some of these cooler plants as late as September 1, and then I can harvest them in November or December. Doesn't always work out, but July and August are too damn hot still 🙂

  2. All my Pak Choi bolted this year – I've started more already but I'm not sure what I can do to stop them bolting again.

  3. I emailed you a few months ago asking about whether your module trays will be made available in Canada? I really like them and would love to see if I can get them at an affordable price.

  4. Alot of people hype up the sarpo Mira potatoes but sadly I cannot for the life of me find any here in America to try growing for myself. I also can't find anyone willing to import them. Not sure if there are laws preventing it but it stinks that I can't find them to try them myself.

  5. Why was the containers all stacked up Huw? Are they left to be taken out when you need them? If you do that do they need to be left in the shade or watered at all?

  6. Yesterday YouTube suggested one of your videos you posted many years ago, and I watched it. Oh my god!!

  7. Fantastic advice and guidance! I look forward to these videos… everything I need to keep the garden producing!

  8. Good information! Just what I needed as we lost most of our summer crops to multiple hail storms and excessive rain in Colorado. My motto when losing crops is to just keep sowing/growing until you can’t sow/grow no mo’!

  9. I watched you garden diaries video in which you say you're out of water for one of the gardens just yesterday, and it's so good to hear that you're finally getting some rain!

  10. I'm trying New Zealand spinach for the first time. Perhaps I planted it in too much shade as it seems slow to size up. Any other spinach just bolts no matter what I do. Bush beans, well why have all the varieties for the past three years got long tendrals and I need to stake the plants. Perhaps it is the changed climate. Once known as the west (wet) coast of Canada, has now been in a year round drought for a few years. No luck here with a bit of self sufficiency! Hoping for some potatoes from my twelve large grow bags. Planting in July, heck I have not harvested anything other than lettuce and spring onions from my earlier plantings? Never say never, carry on gardening!

  11. Insted salat in winer we like lamb salat . We sow late Sommer and we harwest in winert even under the snow. Its winter hardy.

  12. My garden usually reaches what I call "jungle mode" this time of year, and this year is no exception. I didn't get out at all for a few weeks because of wildfire smoke, only to find that everything has absolutely exploded in height during that time. My sunflowers are several feet taller than me, my wildflowers are blooming in full glory, and my New Zealand spinach is growing faster than I can eat it. It's the most wonderful time of the year!

  13. my peas got the blight…. within 5 days they were completely dead 🙁 they were looking so good and the pods were just starting to fatten up ,,luck in unluck they were away from my main crops, potatoes cabbage tomatoes, etc, first time I've ever had that happen,I'm just a bit peeved, still trying to work out why, same are for almost 20 years, soil always fresh, mulch every spring , no over watering or under watering, strange..anybody else have the same problem?

  14. Planting in July? Uh yeah, not here in California mate 🙂 Better chance putting eggs in the ground to boil them!

  15. Watched your video after a major weeding and tomato tie up session. Lots of thistle and crab grass so I need a day or 2 of rest before getting some succession plantings going. Been thinking of lettuce, chard and kale.
