great video robbie — i always thought that there was too much hype about this –look at all the people who start their seedlings in plastic pots-cups and like salad containers and have been doing this for many years!! way to go!!
Yah thank you for this wonderful information. Niw i can shiw my son this
Love your channel Robbie and Gary! Don't let the micro-managers get you down! lol I just got back from Dollar Tree. I was buying plastic containers, to compost in place. Thanks to what I learned on your channel! ♥
Thank you
Thanks, Robbie! 😊
Great Vid, Well done !
ah thank you so much! I feel much better now. Been using totes thanks to you for 3 yrs now! 🙂 You're the best Robbie!
Good research!
Thank you for sharing this!
Thank you Robbie!
My first thought was that those bottles would make good fountains 😂 Glad you cleared things up – thanks for all your efforts to keep us healthy and happy gardeners!
Thank you, Robbie!
Nebraska 5B first year 2023 have 5 tubs growing in. 2 found in trash are 50 gallon containers. Made a nursery out of 2 but lost plants too wet but I had a great fly nursery. But still have hope..have a great year…
I watched gardening with Leon and he really advocates to put plastic jugs, bottles in the big, hard plastic containers that horse feed comes in. This way you use less soil and he wants to keep plastics out of the ocean. Great video. Now if I could only stop buying solar fountains. Lol.
Love your channel.
Happy 4th of July Robbie and Gary ❤🎉😊
I am so glad you did this video, I am in the process of trying to get some totes going with vegetables. I always wondered about this topic, glad you did the research for us that was in doubt. Love watching your and Gary's videos.
Ha, Dan starts seeds in those plastic oil pans, I always wondered. Though I think I heard you say that before!
Now I need to look at your fountain infos, my daughter gave me her old one 😊
Thank you for this video Robbie! I will pass your video along. I questioned Gary’s use of black plastic in his potato cages, but he answered me. Great idea to scrub the little hairs off or I suppose peeling would be ok too.
❤
I was never worried about the actual plastic getting into our bodies, but I jests that the chemicals from the plastic could leach into food
I set up my five totes with the pitchers as you have shown and did compost in place in traditional pots. 😊 Thank you for the research links! Have you ever dealt with leaf miners?
Last 1 here 😂
Thank you for sharing these tips~🤗
Plastics absolutely do break down at tempatures lower than 150 degrees.
UV radiation contributes to this.
The phthalates that make the plastic flexible leach into the soil where plants can take it up it.
Phthalate exposure is associated with a plethora of health risks.
That being said, the plastics that are used to get food and water to our tables are a greater source of these chemicals than a plastic container garden.
Commercial vegatable growers often use plastic extensively, along with pesticides and herbicides.
I dont think food grown in plastic containers is safe from pollutants, but it's certainly not any more dangerous than what we get from our industrial food system.
Another thing not to buy that smell of petroleum/tar are flip flops. Got ones that caused tingling on my feet. Didn’t realize they had an odor. I smell all things that are plastic.
Can't believe I missed this video. I think yt is hinding video from me. Anyway, thank you for all you two do.
Thank you for taking the time to do all this research and for sharing it. It's very interesting and reassuring.
Thank you again Robbie for reposting the research 👏
I've never worried about the containers I grow my food… I'm worried about all these that I can't grow on my balconies and have to buy from the farmer's market or super market or that meat that I don't know how THEY are growing…. I've bought apples from the farmer's market in the winter and they are still standing on my kitchen table as if I bought them yesterday!!!! A lady in the church that her family grow apple trees in the village told me that especially apples have the most chemicals!!! I know now why the apples on my kitchen table that I bought in the winter seems like that… I'm worried when I buy meat that I can't grow….
If we ever realised what farmers use for having that heavy production we shouldn't eat anything…even the "organic" ones…if we had the opportunity and the money to take a chemical test to everything that we are buying from farmer's market or meat market or super market we would be so angry….
My tomatoes or zucchinis or peppers or lettuce definitely are more organically grown than what farmers are selling to us…and it makes me mad when I hear them talking about my food that I grow in plastic containers…so hypocritic 🤥💥
Thank you so much Robbie for your time to share all these information with us👏🌟❣️
Interesting information thanks for taking time to share with us
Thank you for your voice of reason. Store bought foods are far more “dangerous” than anything we can grow….even in plastic. 🙂
Thanks for the info. It's been awhile since I have seen your videos. You look fantastic! Keep up the good work 😊
I’m pretty sure one of the main ways is microwaving things in plastic containers.
Great video Robbie! Lead is a natural component in all soils but it's in small amounts. Not harmful in any way. Lead poisoning comes mostly from old paint and old lead pipes. That's why we don't use those things anymore in our homes. Totally agree that most plastic containers can be used for planting. Some containers containing BPA can be a problem when storing food or heating food in them but we're not doing either when using them for planting. They are safe for that purpose. Like you said, use products with the 2,4, or 5 codes on them to be sure.
Thanks for all the work you put into getting us this information. I just love your enthusiasm.
I have been growing in tubs, because of your guidance. Still struggling but trying. Gardening for 60 years and there is always something new to learn. San Francisco Bay area.
Your videos are never to long Robbie ❤
Wait I remember you said that your health improved since growing your own food. I remember you saying you had some sort of condition and it went away
❤
I ordered that arigation tubing. To cover my plants like you did. For me it was a total fail. No matter what size i made the tubing it refused to stand. No matter how many or little stakes i put in the ends. Disappointed because that roll cost me 70 bux.
Yesssss girl tell em Robbie!!! ✌️💓
So I get the plants not being able to take in the plastic…BUT.. what about the leaching chemicals that the plants can take in thru watering ?
You are looking SO PRETTY Robbie!!! I'm so happy you made this video. . . it is very encouraging to know these results!!! Thanks for another valuable video! 🥰🥰🥰 Liz from California
Awesome vid Robbie as always!!!❤ so glad u made this video and that u have the research link to prove it to the naysayers who always give u trouble about the totes etc. sadly i bought a Walmart stack of cheap clear cups (solo was just too expensive) hesitantly and sure enough my instict was right after purchase i could open the bag and see the itty bitty tiny triangle labeled 7 . And i was like whatbthe heck is 7!? Never heard that one. And sure enough wow and whoa!! Look it up. Not good!! And even worse is supposed health waters are now using 7 as the bottle. Wow wow wow.
🙂🙃🙃😉😊🤩
#1 plastic is not only clear. Their also milk white. TV dinners are #1 Pete.
Another great video for my son's homeschooling- thanks! 😂
Ps. Logan does love watching your videos anyways, so it's fun school/learning ❤
🤩🙏 NEVER, ever too long – the longer the better, I say! 🥰
