  1. I have the farmers market next Friday and I’m very nervous I won’t have tomatoes ripe for it. Very scared. All of summer?? 😢

  2. Ironically Luke, I was just adding to my MIGardener seed cart yesterday!!! Great video as always! ❤ y’all, Kristy in Missouri zone 6b ( with family in the Mitten 😂, Detroit and Algonac!!! )

  3. FWIW the haze by my home seems consistently less severe than the haze in the major city nearest me. Has anyone else noticed that this isn't consistently distributed? My suspicion is that there is more to this than the fire and as it is deployed it can be deployed in varying intensities in different places. Possibly even different composition where needed as the smell is described differently by different people. They want people in the cities as scared as possible so that's going to be the most visually stunning mixture, and they may want a different effect for plants on farms so that may be designed to do something different there. Thick haze can conceal aircraft at high altitudes, I'll just leave it at that.

  4. Here in north Alabama I've had really low germination and seedling success rate this year. We are talking like 10-15% success

  5. You are so right about food supply, there is no way to not see this now, food production and supply chains have suddenly gotten a lot of challenges for different reasons… Another very bad thing with the smoke issue, is how breathing it in over time affects your body. Get an air purifier for sure, the IQ Air is the best one to get. If you can't get that, get a different one with a HEPA filter and an activated carbon filter, it's so worth it for your health.

  6. Thank you Luke, I absolutely appreciate your analysis of how this smoke is not only affecting humans, but our animals and our gardens. Can you address how we should clean our harvested food. God bless you, your family and your business.

  7. At 14:00 This is so true, the news always wants you to feel high stressed and afraid of something constantly. I try to avoid the news as best I can, and focus more on my close environment, like my garden.

  8. While this is a new experience for many in the east, this looks like many summers in western states. Same thick haze, bad smell, ash/soot on surfaces, poor visibility even within your own yard, red looking sun, etc. I guess it’s not just us this year. The burning lungs, coughing, wheezing, and headaches are miserable. I hope it passes sooner than expected. It’ll get better! Growing more of your own food is a good idea, plus with all the recalls that seem to be happening all the time, I really want to try to grow more.

  9. I'm in Quebec where most of the fires are and the smoke is very thick. My snap peas aren't producing flowers for the first time ever even though they are growing well. I believe it's from the smoke 😞

  10. Fires throughout the world causes this in their own countries but others too.
It happens occasionally in Australia too, but we hope it doesn’t happen.
Costs will increase on your produce over this time.

  11. Thank you for sharing this. It's definitely scary, but if we can act from a place of calm and not out of fear, we can get prepare as best we can.

  12. I live in Chicago. Just returned from northern Utah. The smoke is just as bad in Utah as here.
We ALL trust your information because you tell the truth and are not one of the ones that over react to get ratings. Thank you for all you're teaching.

  13. Great information Luke. I moved to Indiana from Colorado three years ago and was so happy to get away from the smoke from the ever present forest fires. To the person in the comments who thinks it’s misinformation about the smoke is fortunate to not be in a badly affected area. In the west it has been a way of life for past 23 years. Until you experience it, it s effects are not taken seriously. Whatever the reason for the current fires, we need to pay global attention to forest management and provide funding for good forest management. Meanwhile, I’m with you… grow bigger!

  14. I'm in Ohio. Two days ago our air quality was dark purple, 311, hazardous. Today it is 58, moderate. My garden is doing really good at the moment. This is the first year for my big garden and I really hope it can withstand this smoke. We have been getting a good amount of rain and there's quite a bit in the forecast. Fingers crossed.

  15. Smoke AND ASH from major volcanoes in 2023! Plus MIT & Bill Gates have openly declared Sun Dimming! What could go wrong? Thank you Luke for all you and your team are doing to inform us on the reality of the food chain. God Bless!

  16. CT has poor air quality alert today. We delayed planting because N.S. smoke blanket kept temps cooler. I seen what was happening around the country and the world and put in more than we ever have before. I'll be greatful for whatever we harvest. Hoping to double my canning this fall. Luke, thank you for the heads up, it validated everything I've been thinking!

  17. Hi! Thanks for all your videos. Im starting to grow hydroponics and need varieties that pollinate themselves. Or rather need no pollinators. Can you advise some of your varieties? (Indeterminate please when it applies)

  18. Comment #2 I just purchased most of my seeds for bext year from my favorite Mr and Mrs Migardener ❤❤❤❤

  19. Thank you Luke. I appreciate your honesty and wisdom. Here in Minnesota we have been feeling the smoke for the past couple months it feels like.

  20. Thanks Luke – I (stupidly) planted my carrots in a row and had a good germination. Was thinking of thinning and planting square foot next year, but may try to transplant between the rows. Also, will be re-seed some empty areas I think – I have them every year as I struggle for germination success.

  21. Kindof makes me think of Nuclear Winter. Not nearly as horrific of course, but quite concerning nonetheless.

  22. Once you realize these people are playing you, you will stop listening to them. We should all grow our own food if we can regardless what the grocery stores look like. Use the stores as back up food.

  23. Comment #3 ….Ya gotta grow your own food!!!! Sounds like I need to start stocking up on floyr now… . yikes 😳

  24. You should have not been outside that long! Take care of yourself and your family! God bless you ❤️🙏

  25. Totally happy to pay you a little more to support MIgardener and for seeds I know are quality.

  26. I'd fully support an even bigger jump in seed prices! Big Ag seed is probably going to be off the charts.
