  1. Thats Definately Septoria leaf spot. Be VERY careful harvesting around your tomatoes, as it can very easily transfer to your tomato plants. It is a fungal spore based issue, and doesn’t over winter in soil. Once you get it, it weakens and can eventually kill your plants. Bang on with what to do with the first plant, take off infected leaves and feed and help the plants natural immunity keep it at bay. Seems to be bad this year, caused by the drought stressing plants and suppressing their natural immune systems

  2. one one of my potato plants, this happened to as well! all the bottom leaves started to turn yellow. I didn't know what it was and thought it was blight as it had those brown spots. I ended up cutting of all the yellow leaves and disposing of them. strangely enough they haven't yellowed since, it seems to be still growing… I was rather confused and it being my first year gardening I don't have the proper experience yet lol. either way I took a peek under the soil and the potato's near the surface seem fine, I can't wait to harvest!

  3. Thanks Ivan, it's a shame that you've had to harvest another container of spuds prematurely but as I said before every cloud has a silver lining mate, and those spuds looked lovely. Take care and all the best. Stevie

  4. Only today I decided to harvest a 30 litre container originally planted with 4 Charlotte seed potatoes on 20th April (9+ weeks). I harvested it as the container had been surrounded by a number of other containers also containing Charlotte and Maris Piper Piper spuds all with growth of between 3 to 4 feet. It looked like they had deprived this container of light and air flow causing a majority of the growth (leaves) to turn yellow, no spots. Only found this out when I moved others when watering, previous it had a lot of lush growth. Don’t know if I did the right thing because it contained a total of 51 all clean heathy looking spuds weighing a 1Lb and a quarter, a lot the size of my thumb or smaller but most useable as a small salad potato. I just wonder how big they would have got if I had left it the 13/15 weeks.

  5. 🌈💚🍀
I had a similar wee harvest at the end of last week too. Delicious 🤤 🥔

  6. Had spots and yellow leaves let it all die back potatoes fine about 4lb a container Charlotte Charlotte

  7. It might be a small harvest Ivan, but I bet they will be delicious. See you on the cooking channel. Thanks for sharing.

  8. I planted loads of seed potatoes in 15 tall and normal sized buckets this year. Years ago it was a disastrous harvest for me and not worth the compost, time and effort. So I just chucked them in with well rotted manure and compost and some fish, blood and bone mix and hoped for the best, not expecting anything spectacular. They’ve grown really tall and I snipped all the flowers off after watching another of your videos. I’ve emptied 2 buckets so far and I’ve had a bumper crop of delicious new potatoes. I’m so happy!! Is it me or is it really exciting doing a potato reveal?? Happy gardening Ivan. 🐝🐝🐝🐝🦋🦋🐞🐞🕷️🕷️

  9. Its a strange one these black spots Ivan, Had it on my first earlies I pulled 2 week back they were ready and yellowing then the spots appeared. Potatoes were really nice when dug good size average 2.5 lbs a plant. bed next to them with second earlies was unaffected. This last week the second earlies started to go over harvest ready and the black spots started to appear as the leaves yellow. I pulled a plant today charlotte and it gave 4.1 lbs really nice spuds too. again the bed of second earlies next to them planted a week later are unaffected so far. With mine it seems the spots start just as the spuds are finishing. Do not think it is blight maybe septoria though from my googling. One thing is the heat has really driven growth on the potatoes this year my main crop are around 4 feet tall and flowering which is 7 weeks early for them. Likewise the 2nd early are 5 weeks premature. Nothing we can do about the weather as you say.

  10. And sterilise the secateurs. If nothing else, Ivan, filled the tub up will help with moisture conservation.
My earlies get Septoria every year. It is airborne so not a lot can be done really. At least Septoria does not affect the tubers (unlike blight) and maincrops seem to shake it off as they tend to have more green growth.

  11. @ivans-gardenining Do potatoes need to have flowered before they can be harvested ? Mine still have no flowers after 15 weeks.

  12. Hi Ivan, we experience this during prolonged hot spells, this year we have had a few instances, more so in containers. To rectify we put potash through fresh compost and dress the top of containers or mounds. Potassium helps your plants use water efficiently, especially in dry periods, as well as encouraging fruit/veg growth. In 2 weeks time we will top dress our plants in the hoop house with this mix, as a bonus. We would usually have our main crop potatoes planted early march & always before paddys day, this year it was good friday 7th april, the ground was very very wet….then it went very quickly to very dry, the plants got stressed. They have now recovered, we leave our main crop in the ground for 100 days minimum. Your harvest looks great even with the wee set back…well done keep up the good work. Brenda
