YES you can transplant beans instead of direct sowing. Sometimes I want to get an early start on the season so I starts them indoors 3 weeks before my last spring frost date, or maybe the soil is too wet/cold, or maybe critters keep eating the seeds. The solution is to transplant! I sow 1 bean seed per cell of a 72 cell seed tray. They are ready to transplant in 3 weeks. By growing them as a “plug” size, you avoid transplant shock since it doesn’t disturb the roots. Plant them in a straight line against a trellis system if its a vining/pole type of bean. If its a bush bean, then plant 9 plugs in a square foot (square foot gardening guidelines).
