The 1,300㎡ site featured a large courtyard and a 200 ㎡ European-style house. The 8m height difference of the site was effectively utilized, with the garden at the lower level connected to the house at the higher level through a graceful landscape design, thus creating a vivid visual hierarchy and establishing an atmosphere of ‘freedom & nature’ for the entire project.
The ground floor of the building is primarily for daily living, while the second floor provides a private space for rest. Utilizing minimalist design aesthetics, KiKi ARCHi incorporated irregular interplays between function, structure and material to add interest to the interior atmosphere. Materials such as wood, glass, concrete and others represent the mountain environment while red brick elements echo throughout. To create a leisurely living atmosphere, KiKi ARCHi utilized large glass folding doors to enclose existing verandas on the ground floor. This allows for an abundance of sunlight into the building while also eliminating boundaries between indoors and outdoors; enabling users to fully appreciate nature.
Simultaneously, the landscaped elements of the curved staircase in the garden are mirrored within the interior space. When the glass folding doors are opened fully, the division between the dining room, living room, teahouse and exterior areas virtually vanishes; promoting increased mobility and tranquility in this area.
