Hey friends, I’m SO excited to be sharing this DIY enclosed garden project with you! I’ve been wanting to build this for a while now and this year, I finally tackled it. It turned out even better than I imagined AND was even easier to build that I first thought.
I hope you enjoy watching it come together. If you want to build one of your own, I’ve got you covered!

(8) 2x2x8 boards
(10) 2x4x8 boards
FOR THE FENCING: (I used pressure treated lumber for the fencing)
(8) 4x4x8 posts
(20) 2x4x8 boards
(20) 2x2x8 boards
(8) fence post caps (optional)
OTHER MATERIALS NEEDED:
(25) cedar fence pickets (to build garden beds inside fence)
Welded wire fencing material (you’ll need 4 ft wide x 100 ft): https://homedepot.sjv.io/e4xA1Q
1 ¼″ exterior wood screws
2 ½” exterior wood screws
2 ½” exterior pocket hole screws: https://amzn.to/3WQiUeZ
2 ⅞″ timber screws: https://homedepot.sjv.io/x9JJO5
¾″ staples
(2) pair heavy duty gate hinges: https://amzn.to/3MYOaVJ
(2) gate latches: https://amzn.to/3oFQlUy
Weed barrier fabric, gravel, pavers, mulch, soil as desired for inside
(4) 80 lb bags concrete to set posts
NOTE: There are varying opinions on using treated wood in and around the garden. I recommend you do your own research as there are a lot of factors to consider–not all soils are the same, not all treated wood is the same, not all applications are the same. We did our own research and built our garden the way we did intentionally and mindful of the pros and cons.
To be honest, what they’re spraying on the crops in all of the fields nearby and all the garbage they add in processed foods are far more of a concern to me than treated wood posts…but I digress.

That looks really good. I dont know how you dug more than one post hole without renting an auger ha
The whole project looks fantastic! Thanks for sharing and hope that the grapes, berries, and whatever else is planted does well for you. Until next time… build safe.
This is so great! Your directions are so clear you make it seem all so simple. Very inspiring!😊
Great garden… It looks very nice…
wow.. that is a big land ..
👍🏼❤
Beautiful design!!
A great improvement. Were you successful at keeping the cat out?
I was just about to start painting the bedroom ceiling when I noticed this video had been uploaded. I needed a little break anyways! Absolutely fantastic. The wood and wire look so good together and your design is sweet. I am planning to make some panels with the welded wire and wood for a temporary moveable fence that gives the pups a little more running room but looks nice too. Best line of this video, "if it looks straight, it is straight ". Thanks for another video and inspiration!
This garden area looks fantastic, Shara. I'm thinking that you and Danny are going to use and enjoy this area for years. Thanks for sharing this project with us.
Really nice garden!
Beautiful!!!!
looks great. i made garden boxes similar to yours with cedar fence pickets too. mine lasted 12 years before they needed replacing. thats under the wet pacific northwest conditions. this is great timing as i am getting ready to replace arbors that separate my front yard from the back. i’m going to incorporate many of your techniques in my build. 🎉
Oh my dear, you have so much finesse in everything you do!❤️
it looks amazing!!
Someone is going to come along and fuss at you for pouring dry concrete into your post holes. Ignore them. As a Floridian, I’ve been building and rebuilding (due to storms) fences for 20 years. I have always used that method and have had no problems.
so nice and well done 👏👍👌
That turned out SOOO beautiful!!! It looks totally professional. If it were mine I would add a bench outside to just sit and admire the garden or perhaps you'll put your Adirondack chairs out there. Bubby looks like such a friendly cat. He always wants to be close by where you're working!
This is really impressive looking! Everything looks great and I enjoyed watching this come together. Thanks for sharing this.
Shara, that was a lot of work but you make it look easy. Both Bubby and I appreciate your efforts. The end result really makes your artistic talents shine. We've been blessed with a couple of days of rain here so my carport project is temporarily on hold. I think the sun will shine this afternoon with cooler temperatures so I'll be back at it. I've been thinking I need a garden bench in my garden so I can watch the fruits of my labors grow. I wonder what that should look like? (hint hint) Thanks for Sharing!
That is so cool!
If you ever find yourself needing to hold up a long board like that again, use a clamp on the end that needs support . You can just rest it on the bar of the clamp .
That's beautiful work, what a great job
Well worth waiting for looks great
That looks nice, and glad to hear you are going to add some stain later. I am not a person for the gray/silver wood. I like the natural color, of some color, of the wood.
I love the proportions of this design; it all flows so well! You did an excellent job keeping things from being "zig-zaggy" (I'm totally putting that word in my vocabulary 😁). I can see why it's one of your favorites. I would not have thought to utilize the paver base and the spaced pavers the way you did – that turned out really well and I may have to "borrow" that idea for a future project. I will have to admit that I'm slightly skeptical about whether your enclosure will discourage deer… perhaps Kentucky deer aren't quite as adventurous as South Carolina deer – our deer don't care a fig about our four-foot fences!
You are so beautiful and a súper women wow im your fan!!!
looks great! what you could do when setting those long upper horizontal 2×4's is use a scrap piece of 2×4 and clamp it to the 4×4 at the height you want, then rest the 2×4 on top of the scrap and level and attach the opposite side of the 2×4, then just go back, remove the clamp and the scrap piece and attach that side
😍😍😍
Beautiful! Love it! I'm thinking about one arbor in back , one In front, since my garden will have rows of beds on either side. I'll be planning tonight. Wanted to do something with my garden and as always you just happen to be creating the perfect answer to my dreams. Ty so much. This is the perfect idea, especially with many dee and black bears in my area northern lower Mich. I can always count on my favorite builder inspire me. Ty.
This looks awesome! 👍
A level would’ve took a few extra seconds. You use a pocket hole tool but don’t have a level 😂
Totally awesome Garden Build! You guys rocked it out. The pavers takes it to another level for sure.👍🏾💯
Stunning
That turned out real nice Ms. Shara. Good luck keeping Bubbie and the deer out. 👍
Letttttttssssss gooooooo!
Very Nice. My tip, if you are going to expand it in the future. When I fenced around my driveway, I used similar construction to your fence but used cedar boards instead of wire. To set the 2x4s, I put wooden screw clamps on the post at the desired height and just laid the 2×4 across them. I screwed in the pocket holes from the top and plugged them. I've also used the clamps as a saw guide to cut a flush top. I wasn't lucky enough to be on the flat.
Shara very beautiful. And looks like the inspection passed.
Oh. I see. All the finishing works will be done later.. before winter comes. You arbour garden is very beautiful and more than perfect, Shara. Cheers!
This looks beautiful< I was hopping to see some gardening too, but surprise me you don't do gardening…
Joli travail, bien pensé et très bien réalisé bravo, à bientôt salut Jeannot ⚒😉
….do you think your a woodworker if you pocket hole everything ?
Hi Shara did you know that placing cut up bits of Irish Spring soap is the most non- toxic way to keep critters away from the garden! Thanks Candy
Your projects are always so creative and inspiring for even us novice DIYers. This is another great build!
So so beautiful! ❤❤
