This is why we grow milkweed and don’t harvest the dead branches in the fall. Monarchs lay their eggs on the milkweed and they eat the milkweed for about a week before starting to become butterflies.
Please let them eat.

Wish I could get these guys. I never see this. All I get on my milkweed plants are a bunch of milkweed beatles.

I wanted milkweed for this very reason. Bought seeds and planted them in the late fall. Was disappointed when nothing grew.

We are at #94 right now. We raised and released 93 butterflies so far.
We had a big scarcity of narrow leaf milkweeds at one stage and were scrambling. But things are under better control now. Most of the earlier milkweeds have also recovered and bushed out.
But overall numbers reported are lower because of the cooler weather here in 10b

In my opinion that is the primary reason why God created Milkweed & that is solely for the Monarch Butterflies existence. Without Milkweed you will NEVER HAVE ANY MONARCHS BORN IN YOUR YD. The Monarch time to become an adult is roughly 30 days from when the egg is laid to when it takes flight, 1 in 10 have a success rate of survival. When you pull milkweed plant it will grow back relatively fast because. The Monarch RELIES ON THAT PLANTS EXISTENCE 100 %. THAT’S THE ONLY PLANT SPECIES IN THE WORLD THAT THEY’LL LAY THEIR EGGS ON. Depending where you live the last & 5th generation are the ones that fly to Mexico to winter. Remember…….. No milkweed…… No monarchs.
