I have been so behind with planting,Ihad to move .Thank for your inspiration!
Awwww…love animals 🐢
Cool 🤠 hat
Lavender as a herb must have medicinal properties. Thats as important as food. Tinctures, salves etc.
My mom always said veggies for the body & flowers for the soul. Don’t forget that without those pollinators your harvest would be different for sure.
I wish we had a place to grow more potatoes! We have a raised bed of them, which by the way, ae beautiful! I just hope we get a good harvest of them! We have bought cans of potatoes to fry and put in soups but nothing like the fresh stuff!! Take care!!
It's all about balance. We need to provide food for the pollinators too. I'm storing seeds for long term and flowers are included. High tunnel greenhouses are a great investment and extend your growing season. I'm in NW Arizona and I can garden year round thanks to my high tunnels. Covered in plastic in the cold season and shade cloth in the summer.
Get to know your local farmer/rancher! We're venturing in to meat chickens this fall. Love your channel! Keep spreading the truth! 💚👩🌾🦋🌻
Its coming anyways ❤
I love you sharing your thoughts and the others here in this community. Yes, your friend was right…..is it food? I do think the lavender will draw bees and butterflies which pollinate. I’m with you Kaye, the weight of what is happening to our Nation and world wide hits right in the face some days. I think what griefs me the most is this was planned and done with an agenda. The Bible, Gods Word teaches us that nothing is new under this sun. He shows us that mankind …if turned away from His ways will repeat destruction. History repeats its self when we do not walk with God. People who are spoiled walk around with entitlement on their shoulders. Have you read The Fourth Turning, Kaye? Wow it is an eye opener. Your garden looks great. I put up four quarts of squash today and that’s what I’m having for dinner as well. I praise God for blessing my garden. 👩🏼🌾✝️❤️
Great job Kaye – so shocked you found a turtle in your yard so must be some water somewhere nearby. Although the lavender won't keep you from starving, it will bring pollinators to the crops that will as well as it's medicinal purposes. We have never had our food sources under threat before and it's going to take a lot of work and time to get up to speed at complete self-reliance as much as possible. Have a blessed weekend and stay cool for the hot week ahead!
Lavender is medicinal so I think it is a necessity. When you look back in history on those who lived in cities or squalor they were very susceptible to disease. The absence of herbs in the farm garden is a profound oversight of the modern man/woman. Just look at our modern diet that uses chemical additives instead of herbs. Lots of disease in our bodies.
You did better than I, Kaye, in growing lavender and I would be so darn happy with that success that I would plant every one of them ( well, maybe gift 1 or two 🙂 ) and revel in the scent when in bloom! You CAN eat lavender by incorporating the flowers into cookies, breads, and other desserts ( not that desserts are necessary ). I once won a prize for best garden and that prize was a book called, ' Cooking With Flowers' by Miche Bacher. Beautiful book.
No, we would not survive the winter on what I have planted . I have been ill for over a year ( Vitamin B1 and B12 are healing the issues ) so have struggled to till garden plots. Husband works full time so only able to do this on weekends when not at work. So far I have only 5 garden plots of about 20ft x 60ft with strawberries, garlic, onions, potatoes, beans, peas, beets, kale, squash and some tomatoes. I've not even planted corn, fall squashes or other crops for long storage due to two deaths in our family. It's been a very difficult year but we keep plugging along. It's what God would want us to do for each other. He would also want to stop by to enjoy the delightful scent of all those lavender plants. 🙂 Much love to you!
Enjoyed this…loved that sound of crabgrass being ripped out out of the lovely mulch..very satisfying and familiar. Hehe
You are so right, Kaye! We have to make sure our pantry is stocked up. Isn't lavender an edible herb? Isn't it a perennial? Once you plant it, you've got it, right? Sad, most veggies are annuals! I love when things come back each year. I know people use lavender in tea and in baking. There is a technique to use it in cooking that won't let it taste like soap, but still … I have made little sachets of lavender that I put under my grandkids pillows so they rest well at night. I love it, it makes me happy. Being practical is important It'll feed our stomachs! I think we need to feed our spirits too.
I have seen folks use lavender ìn breads

According to Google,"Lavender can be can be found in specialty stores and health food stores. Both fresh and dried lavender can be added to both sweet and savory dishes for both flavor and its gorgeous color. Add the fresh herb to salads, lamb, teas and cocktails. It also works very well with citrus, fruits, and desserts like crème brulee."
Hello again m'lovely lavender lady. Lavender can be sparsely used in soups & salads as a background seasoning. We harvested the lavender at the end of its season. It's very fragrant. Cut the stalks at their base. Bundle 12 to 14. At the base of the flowers tie or zip tie
My experience with gypsum and Alabama clay = cement, after 10 days without rain. I will follow your experience during the coming season.
: )
Are you going to get chickens? You need eggs.😊
Also honey, you need bees. I am just saying😂.
I’m learning more about medicinal plants thanks to you Kaye
I love lavender insects don't like lavender either, and yes it has health benefits
Just like any loving Mother, that's wh
A turtle! Oh my goodness! The best thing I’ve found for clay ( mine was under a patio) so hard I couldn’t get a shovel into , is Easy Wet. That stuff is an absolute miracle worker.
Sorry I've been so out of pocket. This is our rain/weed/pest pressure season here in North Florida. Now, am I producing enough food to last until next year? Yes and no. I have enough carrots and potatoes dehydrated and canned to last until next Spring, and right now, the green beans and summer squash are coming in. I've canned 20 pints of green beans, 59 pints of carrots, and now I'm working on canning squash, more green beans (the Jade bush beans are winding down, but I've got 4 thirty foot rows of Momentum bush beans – they're more heat tolerant – in full flower, so I should easily have enough until next year.) I've put up turnip greens and dices turnips, and they're still producing, and I'll finish up harvesting and freezing broccoli this week. The sweet corn is almost chest high, and should be ready by the second week of July. Whew! I should be pretty well set on veggies this year. I also started a flock of American Bresse chickens – I've got 6 cockerels and 4 pullets that turn 7 weeks on Monday. I plan to keep two of the cockerels, and the remaining four will be sold or processed and freezer camped. These are wonderful, dual purpose birds that are raised for eggs and meat, and unlike Cornish Cross meat birds, American Bresse are sustainable. So….I can trade delicious chickens for beef!
Chickens like lavender in their nesting boxes. It keeps away some bothersome bugs ❤
Lavender comes up every year right? I need to research that. A bit of lavender is nice Kaye. Plant them around and plant your food. You would need a huge garden to grow food from year to year. But let that stop you! No way! Get those grow bags and toss in potatoes, I have two growing huge! Your garden is beautiful and your doing a great job…..
What a beautiful turtle!! That shell…..wow…..
You can plant a row of Bush Beans every week for a constant harvest all summer into Fall. Maybe grow Yukon Golds 60-70 days in the Fall.
Good night smart and beautiful, and GOD BLESS your precious loving heart 😇🌹🦋🐞🐝
I'm thankful for all the perennial flowers we planted years ago and even in the last few years. Last year, I decided herbs were more important in my front flower bed. We do need to make sure we're planting survival food, but things that are beautiful are important. We were created in God's image, and He obviously loves beauty, He made it!
i do have my chickens. I only use their eggs for protein because I let them pass away from old. I am feeling stressed. I planted more today and I am expanding my garden so I can preserve my harvest.
And dont forget pollinators love lavender
Kaye, My husband and I were recently talking about complete proteins, as he walked out the door heading to work, he said that we really need rice. Ha! I did a little research, and found out that indeed you can grow rice. Some ways are hard, traditional, with flooded fields, however, the flooding is mainly to kill off weeds. I found a blog post, i think, about a woman who lives in Appalachia, and lots of her neighbors grow hill rice. A Korean family moved there, grew rice and taught the neighbors. Now the community is growing rice. The harvest is different than the traditional way, still has to be winnowed, but instead of cutting the whole stalk, the rice (seeds) can merely be stripped off. I am anxious to give this a whirl. If I could remember the post, I would include the link, but cannot off the top of my head. I looked on etsy, and rice seed is for sale, so…
Deer and rabbits here in my garden in the PNW Puget Sound area don't bother my lavender. You could use it around your vegetable plants with the hope that the smell of the lavender will keep them away from food plants. I'm trying to grow more lavender and so far have tried seeds with zero success. Now I'm trying with cuttings but minor success so far. Will be doing lots of plantings of seed starts that have been growing in the greenhouse. Will be a busy weekend. I got somewhat overly zealous with seed starting and now have to figure out where they'll all fit! Good luck with your garden. Enjoy watching your progress!🇺🇸😎
where do you suppose that turtle came from?….I wish I could live on tomatoes.
