Ugh, the neighborhood entry is a mess since we last tended it! Count this as part one- we have a lot more weeding and planting of native perennials to do!
I’m trying something different with weeds. When weeds are pulled, it loosens the soil and exposes more weed seeds to grow. So instead of pulling, I cut the weed at the base and cover with more mulch. The soil remains undisturbed. It seems to be working so far. (Y’all are very community minded for taking care of that island. Best wishes.)
I have a tough area like that. That’s where I planted my California Poppy field, nepeta, coreopsis, lavender, and a Boulevard Cypress. So far, so good.

Weeds are definitely taking advantage of our cool wet weather. Y’all are saints taking care of that strip.

So much work! Hopefully it gets easier once the native grasses and other planned perennials get well established.
Hang in there Brie and Aiden! Grow grow grow native grasses!
I can’t wait to see the native perennials you put in. I’m all for reducing weeding!
