  3. I got so many many wild sunflowers this year too..and of course procuts i have made dozens of from plus i got a hold of 10 prize ones seeds and gave them garden space…but i may of messed uo and planted way way too close which makes them smaller…one seed head is a foot.across already!!!

  4. Ok..last post i promise..i got the borers too but grew that trombono squash and of course seminole pumpkin..i got about 100 squash hanging and its way too early for the pumpkins..it takes 130 days..but those two laugh at borers. I also grew the parthingen cucumbers that do t require pollination…my corn and tomatoes kinda shaded them out.. not much production and they should of made tons…but man was that corn great despite worms.

  5. Oh…grow artichokes and leeks…they do great in texas…and are YUMMY AND THE LEEKS FREESE EASY

  6. How did your garden fair last night with the crazy wind/rain?
Thankfully, I just had one tomato branch kinda fall over. But yes, I was up at the middle of the night worried about my garden.🫠

  7. The mushrooms are Leucocoprinus birnbaumii. They are considered a toxic toadstool. But as long as you or the dogo's don't eat not an issue. I think they are very pretty.
And defiantly a much better spring than last year. My garden is a bit further behind in growth than yours, but some of my tomatoes are looking really good and have green tomatoes going. My Chinese red long beans are starting to climb the trellis – can't wait for those. They are so yummie. Cucs were started late and are growing but still tiny. My peppers are just sad. I put them in grow bags and they are hardly bigger than when I put them in. I don't think I amended the soil correctly. But honestly, I've always struggled with peppers – apparently not my thing.
I'm super excited for my fruit trees. Actually have some baby plums, grapes, tons of peaches and finally.. FINALLY have baby Jujubee fruit for the 1st time. Can't wait for those.

As usual I really love your content. I always learn something.

  8. Hostas are the traditional plant to soak up extra water in Texas. They're kinda boring, but nothing kills them.

  9. So on the flooding yard you may have different options other than a French drain I personally hate French drains so is your fence holding the water from shedding off you can just make spot to drain the water under the fence multiple different ways to do that while keeping dogs from escaping or is the yard just lowest there you can use fill dirt if you do about and inch of dirt every couple weeks your grass will keep up with the growth so it won't be a huge mud pit for that long lol idk just figured I'd put out some options

  10. I am soooo with you on the TRUE LOVE ❤️ for tomatoes 🍅 😂😂!!! Everyone should understand and get in the game already 🤣. Everything is looking awesome out there! Thanks for sharing and stay blessed!

  11. I have a question did the Austin community garden allow people to grow weeds in their plot? We have a person in my garden that for the second year, just allows whatever blows in the plot to grow. Last noxious weed of the season was musk melon, this year, it is wild sunflowers. And he allows whatever self seeded from the last season to rot, claiming that he is "seed saving"
Am I wrong to ne upset by this? He is a stink bug factory.

  12. You made me laugh so much about knocking on the neighbor’s door😂. “Do you know about the squash vine borer?”

  13. I’m central Texas zone 8b too and I’m loving this true spring weather 🙌🏻 such a welcome change 🤍🌿

  14. Rachel from That 1870’s Homestead wrapped Curlex tape and tinfoil around the stems of her squash plants to deter borers one year. I don’t remember if it worked or not.

  15. I think I'm the one who isn't a fan of Hatch chilies. I have to avoid Central Market for like two weeks when they do the hatch chili promo. 😂

  16. Hi Brooke, the garden looks gorgeous! I see that you've planted the peppers in front of the tomatoes in the 16 foot raised bed. Question, I have 8×4 raised beds with tomatoes planted in rows of 5-4-5. When I planted my pepper seeds, they all germinated and I have too many to put in containers. Will they thrive in the raised beds if I plant them in front of the tomatoes with an Eastern exposure and Western exposure in the afternoon? Will the tomatoes shadow them too much where that won't grow? Thank you, oh, Plant Guru 🙂😊😊

  17. You made our day when we watched your video in the hospital a couple of days ago. We were watching the video on the phone over the bed, and a nurse came in and asked if everything was ok, that I had been standing there for a while. Love your enthusiasm. And the tomato the worm hole needs to be picked and thrown away, sadly. I will be spraying, alternating with Bt and spinosad. Worms can really eat up the crop, and have gotten several in the containers. Have not checked the garden tomatoes yet. Been out since Monday.
