  1. Great job Becky. For the past 2 years I have used landscape fabric in my tomato garden beds. It was great I didn’t want to pull weeds for 7 tomato beds it made it easier to keep up with my other beds.

  2. It really bugs me you didn’t make a grid. You could have fit another 28 plants in that first brassica bed if you had stopped to measure. I know you have a lot of space to grow in, but you’ve spent all this money to make it efficient and easy to work in and then you wasted so much space

  3. Becky, you really SHOULD become 'one of those gardeners' who PLANS where to put things. One NEEDS TO KNOW what you CAN and CANNOT plant next to each other. Like Cabbage…….should NOT go near broccoli, cauliflower, strawberries, tomatoes & peppers. Beans should NOT go near……leeks, garlic, onions, peppers, sunflowers, chives & marigolds. Asparagus……NO broccoli. Tomatoes…….NO broccoli, brussels, cabbage, cauliflower, corn, kale, potato, cilantro, cucumbers. Peas….NO chives, garlic, onion, leek, peppers. And so on. If one has a FAILURE in the garden, it may be because you've got things that are 'COMBATIVE' planted near each other.

  4. I've been using landscape fabric in my raised beds for about 6 years now and wow it's saved a lot of weeding over the years. This year I have become disabled and there is no way I could garden if I had to pull up all those weeds. With the fabric being black it also means that it warms the beds up a bit faster in the spring which is a blessing as I live in Northern Ontario, Canada and we have a very short growing season.

  5. Omg, your dad is the best. I would of loved to have had parents like yours but instead I will be that type of parent. You we a lucky woman 😊

  6. I have used the landscape fabric in raised beds it is great– I don't use it for the beds where I am putting potatoes or root vegetables like carrots etc but use it for tomatoes, peppers and things you plant individually. I am doing a lot of commingling this year so have less of it on my beds and am really hoping the density keeps the weeds down. I never used a torch to burn it we always just cut the fabric so maybe I will try that in the future for the cleaner look.. so excited that you garden vids are coming out and love the time you get to spend with your Dad

  7. Your dirty face is glorious! Totally makes me feel like we are gardening together as I am usually “well grounded” as well.

  8. Your Father is so awesome–.with every bite of potato, onion etc. there will be that connection of the two of you working together. Those hours you spent gardening with your Dad will become such precious memories….

  9. This is so cool that your Dad is helping you, love watching you two together… Love your beds

  10. You seem to have such a close relationship with your parents I envy that ,they are so sweet ❤

  11. In the uk we chit potatoes by putting the whole potato in egg boxes with majority of eyes facing up and leaving somewhere bright but cool for a few weeks so that the eyes grow an inch or so before planting, we don’t really ever cut them up ☺️

  12. I had to giggle cause I've not ever known someone to NOT put the barrier layer down in their garden/flower beds to help stop weeds – granted I'm older than Becky by a couple years but to me its just a given to save the trouble of dealing with "stragglers" moving on in 🙂

  13. GreaT planting… wonderfuul visiting. 🤗
Am most Gladdened to see your Dad… We appreciate his smiles and always helping. Sweet parents. Hugs to all, prayerfully. 💖🥳🙌🏼

  14. My parents have a kitchen garden. My dad asked for his b'day pressie from me was helping him. he is 79. I have had so much fun xxx

  15. Thank you so much for this video!! I have always wanted to grow potatoes but was never sure how to do it!! I just ordered potatoes from an organic outfit and got red nordic and yukon gold. So excited to get them in the ground and see what happens!!

  16. To late now as by the time you read this they will already be planted out, but wouldn’t it be best to burn the holes first where you want them all spaced, then while the holes are cooling down go plant the spuds, then come back and plant your starts, that way your not having to move things twice, once getting them all out where you want them then moving them to burn the holes?

  17. Don’t they have to be 12 inches apart or more? Those holes look a bit to close to me.
Do you practice crop rotation? I’ve got a great app, it’s called gardenate, you just add in your location and it tells you what and when to plant and what plants can be planted together and what not to plant together, and what you can then plant in that bed the next season etc, it’s a great app. I’m into my second season, made lots of mistakes last year 😂, hopefully this season I will have more success, only time will tell 😊

  18. Thanks for the video. Homestead Hearth covers her soil and burns holes to plant her crops. I don't think she always does it, but I have seen videos where she does it.

  19. Becky, I love your new garden space. Thanks for sharing your expertise. And I love the fact that you filmed this with dirt on your face! 😂😂❤️🌈❤️🌍✌️A good day in the garden!

  20. Your gardens are beautiful. The relationship you have with your father is precious. I live vicariously through you for both your gardening and your parental relationships. Both my parents are gone now and we were very close. You have inspired me to do raised bed gardening this year I have four beds. two that are 4×12 and two that are 4×16. They won't produce enough for years worth but I'm still proud of what I can grow. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and relationships with us.

  21. Babanızla beraber ne güzel çalıştınız. Bol bol ürün alırsınız umarım 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🍀Babanıza, size gönül dolusu sevgiler❤❤🌹🌻🌼🌸💐

  22. Instead of the trenching shovel, get a post hole digger and cut the handles down to ~18-24” for digging deeper holes in the raised beds. Perfect size hole for potatoes, transplanting tomatoes and peppers.

  23. I love watching becky and her dad! Especially Gardening videos! SO inspiring.

  24. On one hand I think it’s a great idea, this landscape fabric. On the other hand I fear that the color black is going to make the fabric very hot, so your plants are going to boil. In the south, I think people use plastic with the white side up to avoid this. I’m as curious as you are. If this works, I’m definitely trying it!

  25. MIgardener says indeterminate and determinate potatoes do not mean that hilling will grow more tubers, that there are only maturing date differences.

  26. Bravo!! So excited and happy for you and Josh. I cannot believe how gorgeous your back yard is turning out. Love those days of full exhaustion after giving it your all in the yard.
