If you catch ‘good’ slugs, like Leopard Slugs, release them away from the traps. Here is how you make and use a chemical free terracotta clay pot slug and snail trap. Two pots keep moisture in the trap and that equals a wonderful trap home for snails and slugs! You get to evict them.

  1. I have mainly snails vs. slugs. Does this work with the 2 pots? I would think their shell would get stuck. What other natural traps work? I have literally thousands with all the rain we have had in South Texas. A bunch of babies now too! Also, what do you do with the live slugs and snails after you catch them?

  2. Snails ate ALL my pepper seedlings Monday night…not just the leaves…the whole plant, except for one inch of ONE stem. It’s crazy!

  4. Thanks for the tips ,I have to get traps going this year.I'm tired of the destruction from the slimy beast

  5. That is awesome, I’m having trouble with them getting into my strawberries plants. I’m definitely giving this a try.

  6. Excellent advice, thanks!
Now for a bit more difficult challenge, getting rid of the Bill Gates GMO mosquitos they've been assaulting us with for the past few years.
I spent 20 years in South Florida and never seen mosquitos like we've got now here in Southern California, they not only come out in winter, they do so in full sunlight.

  7. Oh wow! Thanks..I am going to try that. I have so many slugs.. totally disgusting.. They ate a lot of my Cabbages and pak choy… I bought sluggo plus..but I still have a lot..I go at night and look for them with salt😮it works great..but it's a lot of work..

  8. Great tip. I have a rogue frost advisory tonight, possibly as low as 29°. Hopefully it doesn't get that low, but I'm going to look for our frost cloth and any extra blankets or sheets I can find. I'm not going to make any low tunnels for 1 night. I would have to remove 8' T-posts and I'm not doing all that stuff. Worst case scenario I will have to go purchase new tomato & pepper starts.

  9. Thanks for sharing. I’m in Calvert and the slugs have been the worst I’ve ever seen this year. Basil, peppers, and marigolds are getting ripped apart.

  10. The leopard slug as far as i know it is good for your garden. It eats the grey snail. I saw you had lots of leopard slugs.

  11. The type of slugs you have there looks like mostly leopard slugs that eat other slugs. Don't kill them. I keep those slugs around to sort out the problem slugs 😀

  12. I love that this doesn't kill or harm the slugs, for those of us who prefer to just 'relocate' slugs and snails which is quick & easy to do. I don't want poison of any type in my yard either so this is the absolute PERFECT solution, Thank you. {Trivia: Did you know slugs and snails can live for years, the lifespan varies depending upon the species yup, truth!}

  13. Thank you for this. Slugs are getting on my romaine lettuce, and I'm so grossed out that even after washing the leaves I wind up throwing them away. I hate slugs with a passion. So did my grandmother. She would hiss like a cat when she saw one. Ultimate in nasty to me. Blech!

  14. Thanks Gary, hate those things. However, I am not touching them because they repulse me. What do you use to get rid of them? Nj zone 7😔

  15. I could really use some help Gary. I planted my gardens 3-4 weeks ago and my tomatoes cucs etc have hardly grown 2 inches? Now I'm in SoCal where it's been unseasonably cool/overcast, but I noticed my topsoil looks very "sandy". Would it still be a benefit to add healthy soil on top and water it in? I obviously cant til it much with seedlings in the ground. I'd hate to lose my entire season having overvalued the condition of my soil. I added plenty last year and injured my back so I couldnt grow last year… I also haven't fed yet, I did a light manure addition before I planted. Thanks Gary

  16. As others have said, the big slugs look like leopard slugs and are carnivores, not herbivores, possibly eating the problematic slugs, which are usually the small, grey ones. As far as I know, here in the U.K., we need to squish all the snails. I’m going to try your terracotta pot trick. My slug problems are mostly in the shady parts of my garden allotments. Best wishes

  17. Is there an ideal size of terra cotta pot to use for this trap?

  18. So gross killing them with salt. Must be an awful way to die and very slow. I hate anything to suffer. Even slugs 😔 my mum squashes them with pleasure but I just can't bring myself to do it! They're horrid little creatures but are here for a reason and that is to feed the birds and other wildlife. We've hardly any blackbirds thrushes etc now. Nor any hedgehogs. It's so sad 😢 theyve decimated my Dahlias Cosmos,Violas, primroses and petunias so far this year. Plus some tomato plants, cucumbers and peas. Its so frustrating! I wish i had a killer instinct. Is there nothing else can be done with them other than killing them 🙏

  19. I hope you did not kill all the leopard slugs! This would be a big mistake. They actually help you keeping down the slug population.

  20. Thank you! Don't kill, leave them in a woodland or other area far away from your patch for the birds and wildlife! No pellets used, means OK for our other friends ❤️
