I keep this golden moss in a closed container usually, opening it every day or two to briefly air out and give it a little spray of bottled water as well. I keep it under an LED light for most of the day and out of direct sunlight. I have been also wiping down the excess condensation that inevitably pops up.

My question is, what causes root rot/browning in moss? Is it due to overwatering in a closed environment? When I bought it, it was very balled up, so another guess is not enough light? This rotting is only happening in the center of the moss.

As a bonus question, outside of springtails, which I have added a small amount of, what can be done to prevent mold in my moss? Thanks!

I don’t think it’s rotting. It looks healthy. It loves water. I’d say cover roots with soil light spray the top and leave the lid off

  2. Mosses have no roots. If it has roots, it’s not a moss. Goldmoss / spikemoss are perennials so you can try r/plantclinic

The gold crashes for me more often and I just have not figured out why. At this stage I tend to steal some backup cuttings and put them in backup containers.
