Batch composting is the fastest and most efficient way to produce high quality compost, and this two-bin tumbler makes it easy. Fill one side with kitchen scraps and yard waste, then stop adding materials and let it “cook,” turning it every few days to speed up the decomposition process. In the meantime, add new scraps to the other side. When the first batch of compost is finished, remove it and repeat the process, letting the other side cook.

  1. It shouldn't, as long as you follow the instructions about what kinds of things can go into the batch — and those that cannot. No meat, for instance. For more information composting, check out the articles on our web site, gardeners . com, where the Learn + Share section has a category on composting. -David Grist, Gardener's Supply

  2. 25". The tumbler is 28-1/2" W x 25" D x 37-1/4" H overall; each bin holds approx. 3 cubic feet (22 dry gallons). More details on the product page, which is linked in the video description. -David Grist, Gardener's Supply

  3. Can you give me an idea of how long scraps will be compost after it is full and being tumbled (in general) and what size tub trug is being used in the video (the green one being used to empty the bin)? Thanks!

  4. Composting time varies. If the compost is cooking well, you can have results in five or six weeks, but it needs to be a well-balanced combination of "ingredients." In cold-winter areas, composting slows down considerably in the winter. More details on "batch" composting come with the instructions. You can also find more information on the "learn more" tab on the product page. The tub is one of our 11-gallon Tubtrugs. -David Grist, Gardener's Supply
